Director, Philanthropy - Saint John's Health Center Foundation

Under direction of the Vice President, Development, the Director, Philanthropy works with staff and volunteers where appropriate to initiate current major and planned gifts in support of campaigns and other identified fundraising priorities of Saint John's Health Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Identifies and pursues major funding prospects for campaigns and other funding priorities to further the mission of Saint John's Health Center Foundation and to meet the Foundation's fundraising goals.
  • Identify and establish relationships with key stakeholders (physicians, grateful patients, volunteers and hospital administrators) in an effort to help identify and engage new prospects, develop strategies and steward existing donors.
  • Secure financial support by managing a portfolio (average size, 125) of major gift prospects ($50,000+) with consistent focus on the highest level of giving and high-touch engagement, cultivation, and stewardship that leads to successful solicitation strategies.
  • Annual metrics include a financial goal, 24 asks over $50k including 10 over $100k, 144 significant interactions, 96 face to face visits, 96 discovery calls and with assistance from VP, Planned Giving, bring closure to 3 estate gifts.
  • Partner with development colleagues who staff other philanthropic relationships where there is interest in supporting visionary treatment and research.
  • Develops detailed gift opportunities tailored to the interest of potential major donors, consistent with established needs and priorities of Saint John's and its institutes.
  • Manage campaign, major gift cultivation, recognition and solicitation meetings and events as assigned.
  • Develops an understanding of the clinical, research and financial needs and goals within Saint John's and its institutes.
  • Track progress and results utilizing Raiser's Edge and follow Saint Johns' prospect management and stewardship guidelines.
  • Success in the position will be guided by annual metrics including numbers of monthly meetings, solicitations, gift commitments and dollars raised.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's Degree in related field; or equivalent education/experience
  • Participation in courses on Fund Development
  • Master's Degree in related field (preferred)
  • Upon hire: Fundraising Certification (CFRE or CSPG) (preferred)
  • 8 years of experience in the field of fund development, including major gift fund raising, campaigns and gift planning
  • 5 years of progressive experience in managing and directing fund development programs
  • Knowledge of the field of fund development, including major gift fund raising, campaigns and gift planning
  • Advanced interpersonal skills necessary in order to deal effectively and persuasively with a variety of influential internal and external contacts when eliciting cooperation and support for the hospital.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills required to lead volunteers, hospital and foundation staff and physicians.
  • Advanced analytical skills necessary in order to determine effective fund development strategies, identify potential sources of contributions and develop short- and long-term development goals and objectives for the hospital.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written are essential.
  • Teamwork and delegation skills.
