Functions as a lead worker over crews engaged in the maintenance and repair of City sewers, storm drains and tunnels. Work Location: This position currently works on-site only. Applications: Applications must be fully complete to be considered for this position. Working Conditions: Constant exposure to the elements, dust, dirt, chemicals, loud noises, gases and traffic.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

- Function as a lead worker directing the actions of crews in the maintenance and repair work for the City.
- Function as a lead worker performing, coordinating and monitoring the work progress of a crew(s) of maintenance workers, laborers, truck drivers, equipment operators in the maintenance and care of holding ponds; maintenance, repair and operation of storm and sanitary sewers and pump stations.
- Train other Service Workers in all facets of the job, including equipment operation, safety procedures and operational policies and procedures.
- Drive, operate and maintain high-pressure water flushers, rodder and discing equipment, vacuum equipment, combination jet/vac's, jackhammer, bobcats, closed captioned televising trucks and snowplows.
- Participate in the televising and inspection of storm and sanitary sewers.
- Maintain records of time for payroll purposes and other routine records using asset management software and paperwork of time, materials, tools/equipment used, etc.
- Work with city departments and citizens to answer questions and resolve complaints and problems.
- May assist with the following:
- Investigate all possible failures to sewer infrastructure.
- Flushing and inspecting sewers.
- Install, maintain, repair, or remove fences, rails, guard rails, retention walls or other minor structures.
- Repair and seal holes in roadways
- Excavate and repair of the entire sanitary and storm infrastructure.
- Repair and/or replacement of sewer infrastructure.
- Placement, monitoring, repair and/or replacement of traffic control devices.
- Take responsibility for mixing and application of toxic chemicals and the disposal of hazardous waste.
- "Snow emergency" operations, snow and ice control, and graffiti removal, etc.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Maintenance Crew Leaders may be required to work nights, weekend shifts and/or holidays.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum Experience: Two years of experience in Surface Water & Sewers or equivalent Licenses/Certificates:
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement.
- Class S-D Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator Certificate or the ability to obtain one within one (1) year
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered. Selection Process: The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process. Background Check: The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Union Representation: This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement between the City of Minneapolis and the Laborers Local 363 (CLB) . Eligible List Statement: The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire one month after it has been established. Interview Selection: The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.
