Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics. In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state.
Posting Summary	Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Scuba Instructor for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The Department of Marine & Coastal Sciences is seeking 2 part-time "Scuba Instructors" to assist the undergraduate course, Scientific Diving II (11:628:345), taught in Fall, and Scientific Diving I (11:628:345) taught in the Spring. Among the key duties of this position are the following: Teaches & assists with scuba program courses & activities according to PADI standards & safe diving practices. Assists with preparing scuba equipment for classes & minor maintenance. Conducts & assists with open water certification dives at off-site program locations. Works cooperatively with dive masters, instructors & scuba volunteers. Tags equipment for repair and inspects safety equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience	Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications/Licenses	PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification with active teaching status. Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification & Oxygen Administration certification. Valid driver's license and Defensive Driving certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities	Must demonstrate scuba skills; performing rescue activities, general watermanship skills, etc. Ability to instruct various PADI scuba courses. Proficient in dive rescue and in the demonstration of standard scuba skills. Strong student orientation and ability to work with a diverse student population. Excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor. Strong decision-making and problem-making skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment	Physically fit to actively participate in scuba activities such as carrying diving equipment.
