Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a HR Consultant for the department of University Human Resources. This position serves as an embedded resource to the New Brunswick Chancellor's Office, ensuring the efficient processing of HR transactions. The role focuses on addressing operational bottlenecks related to hiring, compensation, and classification processes, including drafting job descriptions, offer letters, and other HR documentation.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Serves as a dedicated point of contact between the Chancellor's Office and University Human Resources (UHR), ensuring that the human resources needs of the Chancellor's Office are met with a high level of responsiveness and accuracy.
  • Works in collaboration with the New Brunswick Chancellor's Office Chief of Staff and HR Team to manage and expedite HR transactions, with a specific focus on streamlining workflows and resolving delays.
  • Assists in seeking guidance on policy interpretation and ensure compliance with university, state, and federal regulations, as well as collective bargaining agreements.
  • Works closely with UHR leadership and Senior HR Consultants to understand the unique needs of the Chancellor's Office, providing transactional HR support and ensuring alignment with broader HR policies and procedures.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree preferably in Human Resources or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Also requires a minimum of five years' experience in human resource, with a focus on HR operations, transactions, and support.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and foster a positive, productive, and progressive work environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products also required.
  • Experience in hiring and recruitment processes, including posting positions, conducting interviews, and extending offers.
  • Ability to analyze HR data and prepare reports and metrics to assess trends, monitor compliance, and recommend process improvements.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple HR tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality control in HR transactions and documentation.
  • Ability to train and guide staff and stakeholders on HR processes and procedures, fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable team environment.

Preferred Qualifications


  • PHR, SPHR, or other Human Resource Management certification or an advanced degree in HR preferred.
  • Prior experience in classification, compensation, recruitment, staffing, performance management, training, and compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws preferred.
  • Experience with HRIS systems such as ROCS or HCM Cloud or other similar systems preferred.
  • Prior experience working in higher education or large, complex organizations is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with compensation, classification, and compliance issues, particularly in a unionized environment, is desired.

Equipment Utilized
  • Microsoft Office products, Applicant Tracking Systems and HRIS systems.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Evening and weekend hours may occasionally be required.
