About the role

We are looking for aSenior Process Engineerto join our plant support team and assist in supporting our co-gen and steam plant operation with technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills and providing both day to day guidance as well as developing and leading improvement projects.

This role is a great opportunity to contribute to the organization safety and profitability while developing as a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures. Working a Monday to Friday roster and reporting to thePrincipal Advisor, you will be:

  • Supporting the continuous improvement of a Safe and Healthy working environment through personal commitment safety and ensure personal compliance with the specific Safety & Health System responsibilities
  • Forecast and sell electricity to the CAISO grid daily
  • Nominate and purchase natural gas for the site and monitor market conditions month by month
  • Maintain carbon allowance account for California cap and trade
  • Perform government regulatory reporting for the co-gen and steam plant such as FERC, CAISO, EIA and CEC
  • Sustain process safety management within the plant through execution of HAZOPs and improvement of process instrumentation
  • Assist in the creation of the capital improvement plan and support capital improvement project scoping, planning and implementation to meet the needs of the capital plan
  • Mentoring process engineers to help develop their expertise in process evaluation, diagnostic, and problem solving skills
  • Utilize technical expertise to provide day-to-day support of gas fired Boilers, Cogeneration Plant and Water systems to solve operating deficiencies, find and implement improvement and reliability opportunities
  • Provide input to maintenance scheduling, preventative and predictive maintenance optimization, material selection and specification.
  • Working closely with operations to improve the human machine interface (HMI) to resolve and improve alarms within the system
  • Collaborate and facilitate exchange of information and expertise with other Rio Tinto groups

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • University degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required
  • MBA will be preferred
  • Minimum of 4+years working experience in Industry
  • Understanding of gas and power markets
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software is required
  • Good critical thinking, data analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Experience with Aveva PI systems
  • Experience with SAP and SQL database is desirable
  • Experience with Siemens T3000
