Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficiency, quality, and sustainability of production processes within the site. By leveraging their technical expertise, they optimize manufacturing systems, support new product introduction (NPI), and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires a hands-on approach to problem-solving, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and a strong commitment to operational excellence.

The ME is a key partner of the Group Leader and ensures that they prioritize the goals of their assigned area, focusing on maximizing customer value.

Responsibilities: As the Manufacturing Engineer your work will include:

  • Process Improvement
  • Analyzing existing manufacturing processes to identify inefficiencies and implement cost-effective solutions.
  • Developing and implementing the United Safety Lean Operating Model (LOM) to reduce waste and improve productivity.
  • Conducting root cause analysis and corrective action implementation to resolve production issues.
  • Contributing to the Value Stream future state design and ensuring its execution across their assigned area.
  • Conducting time studies and establish general manufacturing targets and routings.
  • Production Support
  • Providing technical support to the production team to ensure smooth operations.
  • Troubleshooting equipment and process issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Developing and maintaining work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process documentation.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI)
  • Collaborating with design and R&D teams to ensure the manufacturability of new products.
  • Leading the design and development of manufacturing processes for new products.
  • Conducting the prototyping, testing, and validation of production systems for NPIs.
  • Quality Assurance
  • Ensuring manufacturing processes meet quality standards and compliance requirements.
  • Implementing quality control measures to monitor and improve product consistency.
  • Working closely with the Quality Assurance team to address non-conformities and implement preventive measures.
  • Equipment & Technology
  • Identifying, evaluating, and implementing new manufacturing technologies and equipment.
  • Developing preventive maintenance schedules and ensure equipment reliability.
  • Managing the installation and commissioning of new machinery.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
  • Promoting a culture of safety, ensuring adherence to HSE regulations.
  • Identifying and mitigating the risks associated with manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Driving sustainability initiatives to reduce environmental impact.
  • Exemplifying a safety-first mindset, ensuring that the United Safety's Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards are applied and that their assigned areas are a model of a world class healthy and safe working environment.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Working closely with the procurement, supply chain, and logistics teams to ensure timely material availability.
  • Analyze material supply options and support sourcing initiatives. Provide strategic input to the make vs. buy process and provide valuable analysis where necessary.
  • Collaborating with sales and customer service to address client-specific manufacturing requirements.
  • Supporting and sustaining a culture that is aligned to the United Safety's PASSION values, by role-modelling the behaviors, motivating, encouraging and recognizing the contribution of Team Members.
  • Holding colleagues accountable to embody the United Safety PASSION values.
  • Ensuring the execution of Daily Management and Standardized work, through adherence to Leader Standard Work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

You're a great fit for this position if this describes you;

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 4-6 years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Six Sigma Green-Belt Certified. Or able to become certified within the first year of the role.
  • Experience with World Class Manufacturing and working with a Lean Operating Model.
  • Able to solve complicated problems for determining areas where processes need improvement.
  • Able to read engineering drawings including weld symbols and GD&T.
  • Strong knowledge of varying manufacturing concepts.
  • Able to successfully compile information for reports and decision making.
  • Capable of effectively conducting and contributing to meetings at any level.
  • Able to read and understand blueprints, technical drawings and manuals.
  • Proficient in software: MS Applications Word, Excel, Outlook and an understanding of ERP systems, Syteline experience a plus.
  • Work experience with Solidworks, Auto CAD.
  • BOM costing experience is a plus.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, ensuring error-free documents and effective interaction with internal and external contacts, utilizing tact, diplomacy, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and diverse projects including, analytical thinking, planning, prioritizing, problem solving, decision making and carrying out assigned projects with minimal supervision.
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced, team environment, while responding and adapting to change favorably and quickly.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for up to 10-12 hours a day when necessary.
  • Safety is at the forefront of your mind when working and you follow all policies to promote a safe working environment.
  • You bring with you a positive attitude and the ability to work cohesively in a team environment.
  • Help United Safety operate effectively by adhering to attendance and punctuality standards.
