Description

The AAAS Center for Scientific Evidence in Public Issues (EPI Center) is seeking to fill a part-time, term-limited Program Assistant role. The role reports to the EPI Center Director and includes such tasks as managing virtual meeting logistics, including speaker coordination; updating and maintaining a database of EPI Center activities and metrics tracking; and supporting the Director in preparing funder reports. Approximately twenty-five percent of this role in also supporting EPI Center project directors on specific Center projects.

The AAAS Center for Scientific Evidence in Public Issues (EPI Center) makes it easier for policymakers and the public to access relevant scientific evidence and information. The EPI Center brings clearly and strategically communicated scientific evidence on a select number of public issues to decision-makers so they can better integrate scientific evidence into their decision-making process.

What You'll Do



  • Event planning and execution:


    • Managing Zoom logistics (registration; event management; participant surveys, statistics and other data gathering)
    • Speaker coordination (scheduling meetings, gathering required waivers and other materials, etc.)
    • Creating event pages and event marketing materials
    • Updating event pages and managing communications with speakers and participants post-events
    • Preparing meeting notes and/or key takeaways as appropriate


  • Update and maintain Air Table database (meeting statistics, project metric and success tracking)
  • Approximately twenty-five percent of time supporting specific projects/project directors


    • Science and policy landscape analysis
    • Research on potential experts


  • Support the Director in gathering data for and preparing funder reports, particularly grant metrics and successes
  • Source images, create infographics (supporting team on presentations, etc.)


Minimum Requirements



  • Undergraduate or graduate degree, science majors preferred
  • Proficiency in Outlook, MS Word and Excel; experience with PhotoShop or Canva and InDesign preferred
  • Experience with Drupal and Air Table preferred.
  • Ability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated experience working for governments and international organizations is a plus
  • Website content development and maintenance (Drupal, html)
  • Excellent communications skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills
  • Strong attention to detail and deadlines
  • Excellent writing, verbal and interpersonal skills; experience writing for a general audience preferred

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is $46,000 - $50,000 per year. AAAS currently provides the following benefits for this position: paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, paid holidays, health insurance, flexible spending account, dental insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, short- and long-term disability, each subject to the terms of the applicable program. Additional benefits may apply.

Any actual offer of employment, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be made in the sole discretion of AAAS and will be based on a variety of factors, including years of experience, depth of experience, and other relevant factors.
