Job Summary
Under general supervision of the Campus Counsel Office Manager, provide analytical and administrative support for the delivery of legal services. Serve as knowledge manager for data, correspondence, subject matter files, reports, and other documentation associated with legal and compliance matters handled by the office. Using thorough knowledge of legal terminology, practices, forms and the legal system, draft responses to document production. Research and gather information, draft and edit correspondence, reports and presentations; maintain database and records systems; accept, manage collection of records, and respond to subpoenas; provide backup assistance to the executive assistant. - Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- Experience working with confidential information and sensitive data, and exercising discretion in dealing with confidential or potentially sensitive topics.
- Analytical, research and problem-solving skills to extract, interpret and evaluate data from various sources, independently summarize information, and organize data and materials into a comprehensive package.
- Oral and written communication skills to independently formulate and express ideas and concepts, respond to correspondence and requests, and to draft and edit correspondence, reports, presentations and other documentation using proper grammar, style, spelling, punctuation and protocol.
- Active listening skills to capture and communicate important and relevant information in a clear and concise manner.Organization and time management skills to prioritize a high volume workload with competing deadlines, establish systems to track and meet a variety of deadlines, follow through to solutions, and give attention to detail.
- Interpersonal skills and political acumen to serve as a representative of the Office of the Campus Counsel with an array of diverse constituencies, including high-level officials and senior managers.
- Skilled in the use of MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook calendaring, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), electronic mail, and the Internet.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience processing and responding to requests for records made pursuant to the California Public Records Act and Information Practices Act.
- Experience using the Internet, Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw or other online systems to research information, such as legal information, travel planning details, arranging meetings, UC administrative policies, and other areas of focus.
- Familiarity with data management software.
- Familiarity with University of California organizational structure, mode of governance, policies, procedures, and regulations.

Department Overview The Office of Campus Counsel has responsibility for providing advice on the legal rights and obligations of the University to campus administrators, including the Chancellor, the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, vice chancellors, vice provosts, deans, department chairs, unit heads, and other academic and administrative officers of the campus. Responsible for responding to requests for the production of campus and UC Davis Health System records in response to subpoenas and requests made pursuant to State and Federal laws (e.g. California Public Records Act, California Information Practices Act, the federal Freedom of Information Act, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). Managing these requests in accordance with applicable laws is critical for reducing the campus' risk of litigation for non-compliance. Requests are made by members of the public, law offices, union representatives, media, and elected officials for all types of records maintained on campus or at the UCDHealth System. This position serves as a liaison between all interested parties. POSITION INFORMATION
