THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

With our team, you will assist those who are returning to the community after mental health hospitalization or preventing premature hospitalization. This work supports the consumer's efforts to reintegrate into or remain in their community, thus fostering their success in recovery and in building the confidence and self-reliance needed for full independent living.

This position supports each consumer's efforts consistent with their individual goals, plans, and objectives. You will train consumers in home safety protocols, share observations with your supervisor and team members as appropriate, and document your observations of consumers' behaviors and progress in a timely manner. You may also be expected to transport consumers in a county vehicle to appointments, when necessary.

This position requires close contact with our consumers in their home environment. Workers in this capacity will work on shifts to assure 24-hour availability in a small facility in which a limited number of seriously mentally ill consumers reside, each in their own apartment. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time employment, approximately 15-20 hours per week.
  • Work hours are Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Employee may have occasional overnight travel or out of County travel for meetings or training and often works irregular hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends may be required.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months of experience as a Residential Program Trainee; or
  • One year of experience in a Human Services Agency working with the mentally disabled, the elderly, or children and youth; or
  • Two years of college which includes courses appropriate to the Human Services field; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • You must meet the PA residency requirement. For more information on ways to meet PA residency requirements, follow the link and click on Residency.
  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Lackawanna, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, or Wayne counties. If no eligible candidates who live within these counties apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
