DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will provide program support to the Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps. You will work as a member of a team responsible for program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation. The Outdoor Corps is a youth conservation work-skills training program that exists to train the next generation of conservation stewards, involve underserved populations in conservation and outdoor recreation, and to diversify DCNR's workforce. Your position will be responsible for other duties and assignments as the Outdoor Corps program continues to evolve.

You will be involved in collecting, compiling, and analyzing data used in drafting policies, standards, operating procedures, and educational materials; developing the scope of projects; developing regionally based education programs and products for program participants; and providing recommendations for the development of short-term and long-range goals for program initiatives. Your work also involves providing technical guidance, advice, direction, and assistance to field personnel and program partners; planning, scheduling, and conducting projects, training courses and workshops; and working with field personnel and partners to implement program initiatives.


The Outdoor Corps is designed to integrate youth into the conservation workforce as they undertake projects to protect, conserve, promote, and enhance natural resources within Pennsylvania.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will have the option to work from one of the following locations:
    • Presque Isle State Park (301 Peninsula Drive, Erie, PA, 16505)
    • Bureau of Recreation and Conservation Southwest Regional Office (301 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222)
    • Forbes State Forest District Office (1291 Route 30, Laughlintown, PA 15655)
    • Clear Creek State Park (38 Clear Creek Park Rd., Sigel, PA 15860)
    • Tiadaghton State Forest District Office (10 Lower Pine Bottom Rd., Waterville, PA 17776)
    • State Parks Region 1 Office (260 Sizerville Road, Emporium, PA 15834)
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of professional experience in natural resource management or natural resource education; and a bachelor's degree in natural resource management, parks and recreation, education, biology, forestry, ecology, geosciences, environmental sciences, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a valid Class C driver's license that is not under suspension.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Post Employment Requirement:
  • This position will require the employee to obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification which will be provided by the agency within 6 months of employment.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
  • In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years.
