Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 15 years of demonstrated leadership; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 13 years of demonstrated leadership

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.


Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a passionate, experienced Business Area Segment Director for the Radar and Radio business segment. The Business Director is responsible for the strategic direction, operational leadership, customer relationships and growth of a business that is responsible for design, development, production, support and integration of Radar and Radio portfolio. As an integral part of the leadership team, a vital responsibility is the achievement of financial operating goals through effective management of a profit and loss center. The candidate must be able to develop strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and customers. A commitment to customer satisfaction with the ability to deal with internal and external clients in high pressure situations within a dynamic environment is critical. Experience in Supply Chain Management is also important. Relocation is available.

The Business Area Segment Director is responsible for continued growth of the business segment. The Director is accountable to drive the vision to full implementation through employee engagement, new business opportunities, technology development, customer growth and increased vendor and teammate partnership to ensure the business segment achieves objectives at all levels. This individual will have at least 13 years of demonstrated leadership and be capable of successful program execution from the team, business area growth through award of new contracts, achievement of operating targets, management of indirect budget, and is expected to have a high-level proficiency in applicable technical concepts. The Director must have demonstrated and relevant experience working with both government and large prime contractors as customers, delivering complex systems and solutions. The Business Area Segment Director is responsible for leadership within a matrix organization. Major functions are matrix-ed across GDMS. The Director will be expected to leverage the matrix-ed capabilities to maximize the effectiveness of the organization.

PREFERRED DEGREE TYPE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field or equivalent is required
  • Requires strong leadership and communication skills and an ability to rapidly grasp advanced technologies and how they may be applied to satisfying customer requirements
  • Prior Surface Ship and/or Navy experience
  • Skilled in production program execution and/or manufacturing background
  • Skilled in the development and implementation of product/program strategies and tactics
  • Demonstrated leadership of a program with significant delivery or technical risk
  • Requires the ability to work both independently and within highly motivated teams
  • Experience in business management, systems engineering and understanding government contracting procedures and business development methodologies, including bid and capture strategies is strongly desired.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Leading the organization in context of the GDMS leadership expectations model
  • Lead the business segment including program oversight and review. Responsible for meeting business objectives for orders, sales, profit and cash
  • Lead the development and execution of strategic plans to win business within existing and new markets.
  • Drive efficiency, quality and operational improvement initiatives to achieve world class operational performance
  • Build and maintain effective business relationships with employees, customers, partners and other stakeholders
  • Lead and develop direct and indirect reporting employees including the program managers and site managers
  • Identify and manage risks associated with delivering current and future customer requirements
  • Drive teams/strategies to interpret and respond to complex customer requirements
  • Build and maintain a robust opportunity pipeline by working with members of the Business Development team to identify opportunities that warrant financial investment
  • Candidate must be capable of development and sharing a vision for the growth of the business, delegating responsibility while being accountable, and must be able to influence others by persuasion

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Candidates must have a strong leadership background, effective communication skills, proficiency in development and execution of an Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), and an understanding of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) implementation for program cost and schedule performance management
  • Strong business acumen including knowledge of financial reports, business measurements and operational metrics to ensure maximum business impact to drive optimal decision making
  • Strong leadership skills in people management, program execution, team-building, customer relationship management and business development
  • Will be required to travel to meet with Customer and distributed team

Position Location: Scottsdale, Arizona (2-3 days per week onsite)

Target salary range: USD $245,665.00/Yr. - USD $265,817.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
