Job Description

What you will do

The Test Technician will work on the Engineering Lab team thatis part of the Unitary Products Group (UPG) for Johnson Controls. In this division we design, test, manufacture and assemble heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment for the light commercial and residential markets. Johnson Controls has two plants for UPG with approximately 1000 employees each: one in Norman, OK and the other in Wichita, KS. This position will is located in our Norman, OKplant and will report to the Engineering Lab Manager.

How you will do it

As a Test Technician working in the engineering laboratory, you will work in a climate-controlled HVAC laboratoryenvironment performing assignments pertinent to operational improvements and product testing as needed. You will have opportunity to learn several skills by being actively involved in psychrometric testing, furnace testing, reliability testing, and calibration support.

  • You will be working with engineers and lab employees at the Norman, OK to drive operational improvements and conduct a variety of activities related to maintain the testing instrumentation used throughout the lab
  • Maintain and install test instrumentation in accordance with established best practices
  • Initiate and drive continuous improvement projects that help reduce overall operational cost for the lab.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities within lab operations
  • Support special test projects assisting with any special instrumentation needs
  • Assist Systems support staff in data logging, and tracking downtime
  • Develop SOPs, work instructions, and project scope documents and communicate with all stake holders.
  • Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean work area
  • Other duties as required

What we look for

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent combined with vocational technical training in HVAC is preferred
  • Understanding of the refrigeration cycle, including function, definition and /or purpose of the following: Compressor, condenser, metering device, evaporator, superheat, sub cooling, BTU, etc.
  • Understanding of the heating functions, including electric resistance or fossil fuel, desired. Knowledge of combustion fundamentals is a plus.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and skills in - reading wiring diagrams, modifying unit wiring and controls, instrumentation, electromechanical troubleshooting
  • Ability to lift equipment, compressors units, motors, sheet metal parts etc.
  • High level of self-motivation and integrity
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, Outlook, or other email programs
  • Strong interpersonal skills and fact-based decision-making ability.
  • Experience with cost reduction projects
  • Good team collaboration and communication skill
  • Minimum 4 yrs. of relevant experience in laboratory environment
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations - percentages, fractions, average, etc.
  • You will have the opportunity to learn:
