Job Description Summary

#TeamAAM is looking for a Senior Gear Process Engineer to join our Driveline team in Three Rivers, MI.

The Senior Gear Process Engineer provides direction and engineering support for production, testing, and maintenance. They provide engineering support to shop floor. They also test manufactured products to maintain quality. This individual will participate in refinement of engineering systems and processes. They will also resolve or coordinates the resolution of complex technical issues on the assembly line and in the manufacturing process. They will lead technical design, development, and process equipment testing for assigned products. They will also assist in the preparation of proposals on products for customers. This individual will establish processes to eliminate defects. They will also provide continuous improvement to manufacturing process and product designs.

Job Description

  • Supports development & processing of bevel and cylindrical gears for various automotive and commercial applications to meet customer requirements in a fast-paced prototype lab environment

  • Works closely with the design and application group to specify gear development requirements, quality levels, performance levels and program scheduling

  • Participates in design/program reviews and oversees the communication of project status and issues with the department manager and the team members to effectively resolve issues as they arise.

  • Evaluates and improves processes in manufacturing systems in the GDC.

  • Works with prototype tooling, tool holding, and work holding designers and manufacturers to develop a cost-effective prototype gear manufacturing process.

  • Evaluates, diagnoses, and makes recommendations to root cause and improve production part quality and production.

  • Leads team and makes recommendations to improve product quality and processing during program process development stage.

  • Leads team in evaluating and recommending new equipment, processes, and software.

  • Leads cost reduction, throughput improvement in gear cutting and finishing processes.

  • Engages with engineering staff to design and develop gear machining processes.

  • Investigates scrap and rework resulting from gear machining processes.

  • Interacts with production facility associates to solve process and tooling related problems and to develop new parts and processes.

  • Interacts with customers and suppliers to resolve potential issues.

  • Participates and assists with PPAP's and new product launches at domestic and international facilities.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant engineering preferred.

  • 3-5+ years of Process Engineering experience.

  • Gear manufacturing experience.

  • Detailed understanding of typical metal part processing tooling, machines, machine set ups, operation, and prints.

  • Experience in setting up (programming, tooling, etc.) and operating gear processing machines.

  • Expert knowledge of cutting tools and work-holding equipment.

  • Expert knowledge of gear evaluations using CMMs and other inspection equipment.

  • Ability to travel up to 30% U.S. & International.

  • Willingness and ability to work overtime if needed.
