About Myriad Tech Internships

REMOTE - WORK FROM HOME positions with flex-work as an option if you are near a Myriad location.

FULL-TIME Monday-Friday traditional business hours flexible to adapt to Eastern, Central, Mountain, or Pacific Time depending on team assignments.

For 2025 we will have 9 open intern positions across multiple teams such as: Genomics, Software Automation, Site Reliability Engineering, Data and Analytics, Bioinformatics, and Business Operations. Myriad Genetics products help people make life changing decisions - we've revolutionized the lab and created a one-of-a-kind platform that gives people access to critical health information at key junctures in their lives!

Responsibilities

Interns will support daily functional operations, ongoing software and data management and development, and special projects. Both Software and Data Engineer interns will engage in learning opportunities and work products in the areas of programming, database excellence, and cloud.

Software Engineer Interns

Our tests are powered by an automated sequencing lab and software that covers a full hardware and software technology stack: robotics, automation, scientific compute, data pipelines, variant calling/interpretation (bioinformatics), data visualization, risk calculations (population genetics), electronic medical records (EMR), patient and doctor user experience (UX), and solving key workflow problems in large complex health systems. Responsibilities and project work could include:



  • Assist in design, development, implementation, or maintenance including code review and/or testing of full-stack applications with focus on scalability, security, and performance
  • Support successful shipment of quality innovative software solutions and code to production to improve our ability to provide critical genetic insights to providers and patient
  • Partner with assigned engineer or scientist-mentor on their team to work on projects ranging from shipping patient code to working on new early R&D genomics products
  • Tools & Technologies:

    • Frameworks - React, NextJS, Django, FastAPI
    • Python, TypeScript, Java, Kotlin
    • SQL, No SQUL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB
    • DevOps - CI/cCD pipelines



Data Engineer Interns

As a Data Engineering Intern, you will work with the team of 7 high performing data engineers, who have recently built new modernized data platform - Fivetran, DBT, AWS and Snowflake. The team has adopted Agile methodology and follows scrums and bi-weekly sprints. Team is currently working on building reusable datasets that are sharable across enterprise, building data quality framework, data observability dashboards to build trust within the organization



  • Assist with full-cycle data engineering functions including Data Integration, Data Modeling, and ETL Processes
  • Assist in the integration of data from various sources into the organization's data systems.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of data models for databases, ensuring they align with business needs and performance requirements.
  • Support the design and implementation of Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to ensure accurate and timely data processing.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, such as data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions.
  • Tools and Technologies: Fivetran, HVR, AWS, SQL, DBT, MS Teams, Confluence, Scrum, Sprint, Agile


Qualifications
Solving problems in our space requires software and/or data skills and an internship is a great opportunity to learn more about genetics and precision medicine.



  • Software Engineering -preferred experience:

    • Programming languages: Python or Java preferred
    • Experience and knowledge in frameworks and DevOps
    • Knowledge of software development trends, frameworks, and tools

  • Data Engineering - preferred experience:

    • Programming languages: Python or Java preferred
    • Database (SQL or oracle) preferred
    • Cloud Platforms - AWS preferred

  • Currently enrolled in school majoring in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics
  • Current college students in 3rd (junior) year or later; preference will be given to those who have completed at least 2 years towards their degree.
  • Have relevant non-traditional software experience such as personal software projects, coding bootcamps, research.
  • Available to work a minimum of 40 hours/week for a summer or fall internship (~3 months)
  • Excellent communication skills required.
