Overview

The Steam and Gas Engineering Department at Central Engineering is looking for enthusiastic and committed professionals to join its Steam Plant Reliability Engineering Section. Ideal candidates should be organized, detail-oriented, and capable of making sound technical decisions while managing multiple tasks. They must value personal accountability and recognize the importance of the department's dedication to technical, environmental, and safety excellence. Successful applicants should meet deadlines and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with personnel at all levels, including external organizations. They must also have strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with internal and external customers, agencies, and various management levels. Candidates should have a proven track record in providing engineering support for industrial/utility building and rotating equipment design, analysis, maintenance, repair, and inspection.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Perform reviews of preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance plans for effectiveness and frequency relating to generating stations equipment.
  • Lead the development of asset health indices and dashboards by correlating performance reports and trending data points. Research industry best practices for implementation.
  • Provide design improvement recommendations in connection with generating plant systems by providing a fleet-wide perspective of same or similar assets.
  • Provide field support as needed to support System and Gas Engineering counterparts and Steam Production Operations.
  • Investigate and develop responses/solutions to generating station engineering service requests (ESR); perform cost benefit analysis for proposed solutions.
  • Prepare engineering sketches required to modify systems and equipment, supports the implementation by Company forces.
  • Assist in the preparation of operating, maintenance, and test/inspection requirements for generating stations equipment.
  • Conceive, plan, design solutions or alternatives of new refurbishment projects, including technical and economic evaluations, specification preparation, feasibility studies and long-term planning.
  • Present project details to inform and guide Central Engineering, internal customers, and management at all levels.
  • Provide other technical assistance as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of applicable engineering work experience or
  • Master's Degree in Engineering and 6 years of applicable engineering work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Exhibit a thorough understanding of plant design, construction, operations, maintenance, and analysis in the utility industry, oil & gas industry, required.
  • Ability to write specifications and standards and coordinate engineering projects and assignments, required.
  • Proficient in engineering design and principles for rotating equipment, including pumps, turbines, and generators, required.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Projects), required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with personnel on all levels, required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and sub-projects concurrently, required.
  • Supervisory experience of professional and union employees, preferred
  • Hands-on experience in operations and maintenance of rotating equipment, preferred.
Licenses And Certfications
  • Driver's License Required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Preferred
Physical Demands
  • Ability to respond to system emergencies
  • Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be willing and able to make the required visits to power plants and commercial facilities.
  • Must be willing to work in a generating plant environment.
