Job Description Lead Research Laboratory Technologist functions independently as the sole technologist at a CTPL satellite location of the Clinical Trials Processing Laboratory (CTPL) within the Comprehensive Cancer Center.This position coordinates all activities of the CTPL at that location and participates in data collection, maintenance, reporting and/or patient interfacing activities for clinical research studies. Dependent upon primary area of assignment may perform a combination of these duties: Sample preparation, processing, storage amp; shipment activities: Help oversee and manage all activities of the CTPL including preparing labels, labeling tubes for clinical trial specimen collection, specimen processing and storage, retrieving and shipping samples. Use prescribed laboratory methods, instruments and automated equipment to process clinical patient samples; prepare necessary supplies for specimen collection; process time-sensitive clinical samples for pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and other correlative markers as well as clinical safety labs. Complete laboratory test requisition forms; maintain laboratory maintenance and sample records for audit purposes; communicate with outside reference labs regarding patient testing, handle inquiries and resolve any testing and/or specimen collection errors; interact with clinical research protocol and hospital clinical staff. Participate in data entry and management, quality control, audits and FDA inspections, continuous quality improvement and inventory management of clinical trial specimens, trial and laboratory supplies. Manage sample inventory log and electronic database. Ensure compliance with FDA and IRB regulations as well as internal clinical research SOPs, policies and procedures; maintain all GCP, IATA, EHS and sponsor-required trainings and certifications. Monitors and ensure periodic and routine maintenance of CTPL equipment; provides input in developing and revising departmental SOPs; participates in instruction and training of new clinical laboratory technologists and student assistants as requested; serves as a CTPL technical expert; represents the CTPL during sponsor site qualification and monitoring visits. Due to essential nature of this work, must be available to work weekdays and share night, weekend, and holiday on-call and call back duties with other Clinical Lab Technologists within the CTPL. Data collection, maintenance and reporting activities: Reviews medical records and assists with data abstraction, entry, and submission; assists with data quality control; requests medical records and images; assists with tissue requests; assists with reporting and regulatory tasks; assists with tracking monitor logs and monitor visits; troubleshoots issues with monitor access and log ins; participates in meetings to create Case Report Forms for Investigator Initiated Trials; provides support and assists with data locks and audits for the team; assists with training and onboarding new Clinical Research Assistants as a preceptor; may precept across disease teams; performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Education Required Bachelors Degree in biological sciences, health sciences, social sciences or medical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Qualifications At least one year of lab, research or data experience required; proficient computer skills required. Additional Desired Qualifications Knowledge of department specific database software applications desired.
