Job Description

YOUR OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting Supervisor opportunity in our Farm Operations. The Boar Stud Supervisor manages daily activities for farm employees. Enforces standard operating procedures in the farm and lab environment. Responsible for overseeing the daily health and collection procedures for boar studs for animal operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Plan, assign, and direct work including work schedules, time management, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complains, and resolving problems.


  • Train employees on collecting semen samples, boar health, treatment regime, conditioning, farm maintenance, lab processes and standard operating procedures.


  • Maintain adequate ventilation and cleanliness in the facility.


  • Perform routine maintenance on farm and lab equipment.


  • Maintain animal health control by observing animals for deviation in behavior and appearance to detect illness or injury.


  • Manage schedules for semen collection and delivery to sow farms every day.


  • Maintain inventory of animals, feed, and supplies in the farm and ensure biosecurity procedures are met.


  • Order feed and submit requests as needed.


  • Assign work orders to employees and follow up on work for exactness, neatness, and compliance with policies and procedures.


  • Other projects or duties as requested by the Production Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:



  • High School or GED.


  • Must be proficient in the English language, reading and writing.


  • Analytically minded and willing to learn new computer systems.


  • Add skills and/or Core Competencies.


Preferred:



  • Bachelor's degree from a 4-year university or college, an associate degree or equivalent from 2-year college or technical school preferred; or 2+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people such as employees, managers, and senior management.


  • Ability to use critical thinking and judgement skills to reach the best possible solution to a problem.


  • Demonstrate experience or desire to facilitate, encourage, coach and lead a team to reach set goals.


  • Flexible to cross train and provide back up support to colleagues.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move around the facility.


  • The employee must regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds and sometimes push/and or move up to 500 pounds.


  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is commonly exposed to airborne particles and gasses at low concentrations or wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to waste material, feed and hog dust. The noise level in the work environment is moderate but can occasionally be loud
