Job Summary

Central Washington University is recruiting a Career Counselor College of the Sciences to join our Career Services team in Ellensburg, Washington. This role is an important member of our team as they enhance the vision for the University. The role is a campus-based position, which means you get to see the lives you are impacting. We're offering a salary, depending on experience, from $45,303-$54,363.50 annually plus the awesome CWU benefits.

The Role:

Provide career counseling, advising, and coaching services utilizing assessments, and job-finding assistance to students and alumni to assist them in gaining greater insight into themselves and the world of work. Assist College of the Sciences (COTS) students to prepare and compete for internships, professional employment, graduate & professional school opportunities. Develop, improve, and maintain relationships with assigned College via Associate Deans, Department Chairs, Faculty, and Student Organizations. Develop, improve, and maintain relationships with employers related to assigned college, ultimately leading to expansion of the quantity and quality of full-time, part-time, job and internship opportunities available for COTS students. Provide class presentations and attend COTS leadership meetings. All employees are expected to support CWU's commitment to diversity and to bring and support inclusion into the university environment.

Job Duties

Career Counseling:
- Counsel people to examine their interests, strengths, and abilities to find and enter the profession that best suits them through individual, group, or online career counseling.
- Instruct students in methods of career planning to include self-assessment, values identification, researching careers and majors, and decision-making.
- Engage in campus outreach and programing to students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Assist in preparing for internships and career employment including writing/editing resumes, cover letters, graduate school statements; job search skills; internship applications and learning agreements, mock interviews and interviewing techniques; graduate school process; and professional appearance, job search and transition to the workplace.
- Determine and provide career testing, test interpretation and assessment.
- Teach Univ. 103 or Univ. 301 class when requested.
- Staff weekly walk in counseling sessions when requested.
- Assist students and alumni with use and troubleshooting various Career Services platforms such as: uConnect, Symplicity, etc.
- Actively engage with our virtual career center (uConnect) by posting weekly blogs, resources, and/or career development information.
- Assist with departmental assessment needs by keep appointment information on the Inspire platform, workshop assessments, and others as requested.

College Liaison Relationships:
- Participate in the development of publications that market the services of Career Services.
- Edit all materials to be sent to students, employers, on-campus contacts in the form of correspondence, flyers, brochures, posters, emails, etc.
- Market program and workshops to faculty and students to ensure broad awareness of services offered.
- Develop, implement and assess workshops, programs, and classroom presentations to meet the career needs of students especially in the college.
- Provide on-site services to assigned college to increase awareness of Career Services staff and resources.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks.
- Create a presence within the assigned college by acting as a liaison to faculty and staff in the specific college, assisting faculty and staff in developing career development components for classes.
- Actively develop and strengthen college relationships and partnerships, working closely with the Associate Dean, department chairs, staff and faculty.
- Serve on departmental, divisional and campus-wide committees as required.

Employer Outreach:
- Work collaboratively with faculty, departments and colleges to identify key employers for potential internships and full-time professional jobs.
- Collaborate and support Career Services staff to plan campus-wide workshops, career fairs, employers' panels, etc.
- Identify and promote career employment and cooperative education positions with business, industry, government, and social service organizations.
- Use various on-line platforms to assist employers and record data such as: Wildcat Career Network (Symplicity) and uConnect, etc.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in counseling, Higher Education, or related field that includes some component related to career development and career counseling.
  • Experience in career services, counseling, or advising of students in a high school, community college, university or adult vocational program setting.
  • Experience in presenting workshops/classes especially related to careers.
  • Experience in working with electronic technologies such as internet, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations software, and social media.
  • Demonstrated willingness and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and experiences.
  • OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge in administering career assessment instruments (such as WOIS, Strong Interest Inventory, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, and TypeFocus) for use in career counseling.
  • Fluent in 2nd language.
  • Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into everyday conversations.
  • Life experiences that demonstrate an ability to contribute to CWU`s commitment to inclusion and diversity.
  • Global Career Development Facilitator and/or National Career Development Association Credentials.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: This position has a minimum annual salary of $45,303 and maximum annual salary of $63,424. The Hiring Department's expected hiring range is $45,303 - $54,363.50. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the hiring range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)

Working Conditions: Work is performed in the Office of Career Services, at other various locations throughout campus and the extended degree centers as required, depending on the function being performed. Some travel to eastside centers, evening and weekend work may be required.
