Job Description Performs clerical and communication functions for the optimal operation of nursing unit. Coordinates activities of nursing unit with other departments. Functions as a receptionist to greet and assist guests entering the unit. Serves as a primary resource in providing information and facilitating services in the Emergency Department. Job Responsibility
- * Performs reception functions.
- * Performs Order Entry functions.
- * Prepares and maintains patient chart packages.
- Prepares chart package to include chart, triage note, ED identification care, labels and visitor pass.
- * Communicates effectively with patients, visitors and staff.
- Answers telephone in courteous manner, delivers messages to appropriate staff.Initiates and follows up on pages.
- Greets and assists patients, visitors and staff.Prepares and maintains patient chart packages.
- * Collaborates with various departments regarding admissions / discharges.
- * Maintains unit log of patient admission, discharge, or transfer and notifies appropriate department.Coordinates delivery of medical records for discharged patients to Medical Records.Initiates bed tracking system upon discharge.
- * Maintains neat, orderly, and professional environment at nurse's station.
- * Initiates and follows up on maintenance requests.Coordinates with routine maintenance of equipment with Sterile Processing / Distribution
- * Orders and maintains unit inventory according to established par levels.
- * Manages department on-call systems.
- Pages and contacts medical personnel, physicians, laboratory, etc.
- Assists staff, affiliated physicians and patients/family members acquire needed information, contacts or services.
- * Performs general clerical duties to promote efficient functioning of department.
- Responsible for maintaining accurate and efficient records.
- Locates, sorts and files needed information, materials or records and paperwork, both medical and general.
- Routinely operates office equipment.
- Answers telephone and receives visitors in a courteous manner, as required.
- Performs related duties as required.

- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- Minimum of one (1) year clerical and/or receptionist experience, required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, required.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to use telephone, photocopier, fax machine and laser printer, required.
- Able to type 50 wpm.
- Able to multi-task and operate at a rapid pace in a high stress environment.
- Ability to use general office equipment, required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, required.
