About the Role

As a Facilities Maintenance Technician at one of our state-of-the-art battery gigafactories in Smyrna, TN, Bowling Green, KY, or Florence, SC, you will play a key role in supporting the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of facilities infrastructure equipment. This position involves hands-on technical work to ensure optimal operation of machinery, contributing to the smooth production of cutting-edge electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage system (ESS) batteries.

Your Team

You will be reporting directly to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, who brings years of experience is battery manufacturing maintenance. You will collaborate closely with a group of dedicated professionals, each contributing their unique skills and expertise to our collective success. In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead, mentor, and collaborate with your colleagues to drive impactful results. What You Will Do

  • Preventive and Predictive Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on all building system related equipment including HVAC systems, compressed air, chilled water, etc. to prevent equipment breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshooting and Repairs: Respond promptly and safely to equipment breakdowns, diagnose problems, and perform necessary repairs on machinery and equipment, including PLCs, large motor and electrical systems, hydraulic/pneumatic components, HVAC equipment, and grounds systems.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance. Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to log work orders and maintain maintenance records.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Perform task specifically to ensure the facility grounds are maintained including snow removal, painting, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Safety Compliance and Improvement: Promote a safety-first culture by following all safety programs and guidelines. Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Equipment Installation and Support: Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment and machinery, providing support to engineering teams during major projects and machine overhauls.
  • Training and Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to less experienced team members on equipment operation and maintenance best practices. Develop and write detailed preventive maintenance procedures and schedules.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for process enhancements and implementing lean manufacturing practices.
  • Standard Operating Procedures: Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions, ensuring compliance with department guidelines.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including production, engineering, and quality control, to support overall plant operations and achieve performance goals.
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications

What You Need

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance Technology, Mechatronics, Machine Tool Technology, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of industrial maintenance experience, with at least 2 years working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Strong background in troubleshooting and maintaining large infrastructure equipment and systems including HVAC, and site-wide compressed air and chilled water systems
  • Understanding of basic electrical designs
  • Ability to read and interpret building drawings including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and structural details.
  • Strong computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn and utilize maintenance software tools effectively.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and familiarity with safety standards and procedures.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leadership potential and ability to mentor and train others.
  • Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
  • Understands and follows all standards of ISO14001 environmental standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)

What is "Nice to Have"?

  • 5+ years' experience within a specific discipline from electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or structural maintenance.
  • Licensed electrician or active pursuant of journeyman examination
  • Knowledge of Siemens S7 PLC programming

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily an automated manufacturing plant with a concrete floor and is characterized by some temperature extremes, moderate noise, and forklift traffic.
