Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position

Are you looking for a position that will take advantage of your attention to detail and knack for precision? Your skills may be an excellent resource for the Decedent Services Data Coordinator role with the Maricopa County Department of Public Health!

As the Decedent Services Data Coordinator, you will review all Human Remains Release Forms (HRRF) received from hospitals, nursing homes, and other licensed healthcare institutions to ensure that the documents are complete and accurate. You will notify the Medical Examiner of all deaths that are accidental, suspicious, or of public health concern so that potential public health threats and hazards can be identified as close to real-time as possible to identify and prevent the spread of contagious diseases. The Decedent Services Data Coordinator also works alongside our County Indigent Decedent Services Program (CIDS) to assist in decedent research, tracking of Next of Kin notification and logging of interment locations.

We Require

  • Three years of administrative experience or administrating and coordinating a vital records/registration program, health/medical-related service, or funeral/mortuary service

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Post-secondary education in business administration, public administration, public health, mortuary science, or a health-related field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

  • Must secure and maintain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card and complete a background check

  • Must possess or can obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

  • Within one month of hire, all employees will be required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test

  • Ability to deal with traumatic subject matter constantly, as this position will be located at our OVR satellite office located within the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner

Job Contributions

  • Review daily all incoming Human Remains Release Forms (HRRF) for accuracy in medical reporting and compliance with program and medical standards

  • Data enter all HRRF forms received into OnBase

  • Determine timeliness and accuracy in reported information; identify remedies, offer solutions, and coordinate trainings to educate physicians and healthcare institutions on the proper completion of the form

  • Review the diagnoses on the forms and coordinate referrals to the Office of the Medical Examiner (OME) and/or the Office of Epidemiology, if appropriate

  • Scan certified mail receipts and provides to Indigent Decedent Coordinators for proper documentation of receipt in OnBase

  • Assist CIDS Supervisor and Indigent Decedent & Disposition Services Lead in investigating and locating decedent demographic information for the initiation of CIDS referrals

  • Review all interment location information for White Tanks Cemetery and State/National VA cemeteries and log information into the appropriate databases

  • Provide support and issuance of Out of State permits requested and or Disinterment/Re-Interment requests

Working Conditions

  • The position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

  • Teleworking is not available for this position

  • Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time

  • Travel will be required for attending conferences, training, and possibly varying work locations as assigned

  • Will be handling traumatic subject matters

  • Must be able to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available to respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency
