SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Lead Financial Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis will support, develop, and maintain relationships with the Transportation department, establish a timely review of current financial performance, and analyze cost control opportunities. This position will be responsible for financial analysis and preparation of the annual budget, monthly forecasting, and variance to plan analysis. Responsibilities include extensive coordination with Finance business partners as well as Transportation department leadership staff to participate in the development of assumptions.

This position is expected to serve as a positive role model and to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to Amtrak's departments and an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the Lead Financial Analyst must fulfill the needs of Amtrak in a manner which is consistent with the Amtrak's core values.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Act as liaison between the Departments finance functions and Finance leadership.

* Lead, develop and coordinate of the input for annual and multi-year operating budgets, capital budgets and request documents as applicable for the Department.

* Lead and coordinate the preparation and submission of the monthly operating and capital accruals for the department.

* Prepare and deliver regular and timely reporting, financial analyses and other insights and support the strategic financial planning and analysis process.

* Support the achievement of strategic goals and objectives by monitoring, analyzing, and reporting progress of actual vs. budget and forecast results.

* Lead and coordinate the preparation of monthly operating and capital forecasts by coordinating with business partners in the Departments and submitting in BPC (finance system) by the prescribed deadlines.

* Identify and provide explanations for variances between actual and budgeted financial results at the end of each reporting period.

* Ensure department managers meet budget submission deadlines

* Regularly communicate with the Departments regarding financial performance trends, historical and forecasted, using appropriate variance analysis. Identify trends, and develop analyses, key actions, and strategic implications.

* Preparation and review of monthly financial packages for executive management.

* Assist with ad hoc analysis projects ranging in scope.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline

* 6 years of relevant work experience required

* Experience in Financial Planning/Analysis

* Experience with month-end close activities including accruals

* Experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.

* Demonstrated skills using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint. Must have an intermediate (or higher) level of Excel proficiency.

* Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a cross-functional teamwork environment. Provide excellent customer service.

* Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Proven ability to effectively interface with individuals at various levels within the organization to exchange information, work cooperatively, facilitate understanding and persuade and influence others.

* Experience effectively communicating financial concepts to financial and non-financial audiences.

* Strong financial modeling and analytical skills

* Experience with SAP and reporting and forecasting tools such as SAP BPC or Hyperion

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* MBA or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related discipline

* 8+ years of relevant work experience preferred

* Ability to prioritize and manage deliverables and work as a team

* Knowledge of railroads or other transportation industries.

PAY TRANSPARENCY:

The salary/hourly range is$94,300-$122,256.Pay is based on several factors includingbut not limited to education, work experience, certifications,internal equity,etc.Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider ageo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary.
