Position Summary
The UNC Asheville Student Accounts Office seeks to provide a high level of support to the University and its stakeholders that is competent, approachable, reliable, empathic, and responsive. The Student Accounts Specialist is responsible for representing these pillars in both attitude and action.
The Student Accounts Specialist at UNC Asheville is responsible for managing and collecting student account balances, including current and past-due accounts. This role focuses on maintaining and improving the university's accounts receivable collections while providing excellent customer service to students and families.
The Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Current account management and collections
  • Past due collections
  • Collaboration with collection agencies and the Attorney General's office
  • Monthly payment plans
  • Accounts receivable reporting and compliance
  • Developing strategies to minimize outstanding balances.
  • Assisting with the start of the semester and year-end Student Account responsibilities.


This position also has a close working relationship with Budget and Finance, Office of Financial Aid, Registrar's Office, and various other departments on campus.
This position reports to the Director of Student Accounts and often assists with projects for process improvements that increase efficiency and automate tasks.

Minimum Education/Experience/Skills
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
A Bachelor's degree in business administration or accounting.
The preferred candidate is customer service oriented, demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, is highly proficient with computer software applications including MS Office (specifically Excel) and Google Applications, and is a proactive problem solver. They must be able to work independently with a high level of professionalism, be well organized, flexible, and be able to manage and meet demanding deadlines.
Candidates who have experience with the Ellucian Banner System, U.S. Department of Education regulations, and/or North Carolina state government are strongly preferred.
Work Schedule and Hours
Typical work schedule is Monday- Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some over-time may be required to meet various deadlines.
