Supports the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the Executive Diversity Officer in guiding diversity, equity, and inclusion-related training and professional development efforts across UNM School of Medicine. Reports to the Executive Diversity Officer and collaborate with leaders across UNM SOM to implement training and professional development strategies to support SOM mission critical areas of: EDUCATING and increasing the diversity of health professionals, leaders and scientists; PROVIDING outstanding and compassionate medical care; ADVOCATING for the health of all New Mexicans; and PURSUING new knowledge and excellence of practice.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of diversity-focused programs, such as overseeing GWIMS (Group on Women and Medicine in Science), participation in UNM's Action Collaborative, disability advocacy, and LGBTQ advocacy. May provide development of program/function from initial concept to implementation.
  • Collaborate in the creation, delivery, and assessment of training programs such as cultural humility, civil dialogues, difficult conversations, from bystander to upstander training, and addressing bias in academic medicine.
  • Manage Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion staff team members in the development and implementation of programs or functions.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of strategies, protocols, and systems to monitor, assess, and improve the effectiveness of both existing and new programs.
  • Offer support for various ongoing initiatives led by the Executive Diversity Officer.
  • Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master's degree with five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience is preferred.
  • Experience within a university, academic medical center, healthcare system or other matrixed environment.
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience within a program/project management, diversity and inclusion, data, education, or human resource's function.
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and written communications
  • Able to interact effectively and work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Be able to work extended hours only when required, meet deadlines consistently and work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience providing didactic trainings to learners.
  • Serious commitment to providing excellent service delivery with a high level of motivation.
