Job Summary:
The Estimator works closely with management, operations, and the estimating team in the review of project plans, requirements, and specifications. The Estimator shall have extensive knowledge of construction means and methods, costs, and engineering principles. The Estimator must be confident working with estimating teams on projects of varying sizes and generating comprehensive proposals and budgets.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of services and pricing structure provided by upper management.
- Coordinate the receipt of bid documents and the submission of bid proposals with
the project/estimating team. - Coordinate with project management the preparation of a detailed scope(s) of work.
- Regularly meet with management to review estimating/project management
progress and to review the estimating calendar. - Identify project labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals,
blueprints, written specifications and related documents. - Conduct site visits and attend pre-bid meetings to understand the project scope(s).
- Evaluate subcontractor/vendor bids to bid documents and plans to ensure that the full scope of work was considered.
- Calculate costs of subcontract scope(s), general conditions, and materials.
- Develop and maintain relationships with company vendors, clients, and subcontractors.
- Manage bid pricing from vendors and prepare detailed cost analysis.
- Coordinate with the estimating team to ensure each project is properly scoped and
coordinated among all trades. - Assist operations and purchasing departments with submittals, change orders and proposal
- Prepare for bid days by attending review meetings, reviewing proposals and coordinating with subcontractors/vendors
Qualifications (Experience, Education & Certifications, Key Attributes):
- Ability to read plans and specifications and translate them into estimates.
- BS/BA in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field prefer
- Experience estimating cival construction projects.
- Ability to communicate collaboratively; team player and balanced in approach.
- Well organized, flexible, detail oriented and can multi-task.
- Experience working with commercial and public civil construction projects preferred.
- Advanced computer skills with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite of software.
