Job Summary

Performs periodic electrical safety, preventive maintenance (PM) and performance assurance (PA) inspections on a limited variety of medical and laboratory devices of all risk categories to ensure that equipment is performing in a safe and accurate manner. Majority of PM work is high-risk medical devices and dialysis equipment. Completes all appropriate documentation for periodic inspections. In conjunction with supervisor and Clinical Engineering staff, develops scheduled maintenance procedures based on manufacturer requirements and national standards.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • California Driver's License (DL)
  • AS in Electronic Equipment Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology education or equivalent experience/training
  • Several years of demonstrated knowledge of and experience in repair and maintenance of medical equipment and devices
  • Electronic technician skills including electronic troubleshooting, system troubleshooting, ability to read electronic schematics, perform electronic and electromechanical assembly and repair.
  • General knowledge of biomedical instrumentation, including computerized medical systems.
  • Knowledge of physiology to a sufficient level as required to understand the equipment being repaired and maintained.
  • Ability to communicate with staff and vendors regarding equipment issues with both verbal and written communication methods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) preferred
  • Experience repairing Philips Monitoring equipment, operating room equipment and other complex computerized medical devices.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Work hours/days: Variable/variable. Required to work alternative shifts at the discretion of department management with proper notification. May be occasionally required to be available on a paid standby basis for emergency repair calls on nights, weekends and holidays. Willing to respond to emergency off-hours repair calls on nights, weekends and holidays. Willing to work overtime for special projects and emergency repairs. This position is subject to the DMV pull notice system. No smoking in the work area or in any UC vehicle. NOTE: UCDHS is a smoke-free campus.
