Program Manager, Greenwood Initiative

Bloomberg Philanthropies' Greenwood Initiative is a first-of-its-kind portfolio founded in 2020 with a mission to accelerate intergenerational Black wealth and address systemic underinvestment in Black communities. The portfolio invests in opportunities for Black people to acquire resources, expand community ownership, and increase influence through economic power.

The Position:

We are seeking a Program Manager to join our Greenwood Initiative team and manage key aspects of our portfolio. The Initiative explores investments across a broad frame: furthering life expectancy, health, and wellbeing; asset protection and institution building; and, strengthening communities and resiliency in the face of shocks.

Reporting to the Greenwood Initiative lead, you will oversee investments and partnerships where we have launched programming as well as establishing relationships and implementing strategies with new partners. You'll monitor and ensure success of program initiatives and provide strategic guidance for program expansion and scale. You'll be a "thought partner" to grantees and partners, helping to solve problems and drive project success. You will also help to advise and conceive the development of new strategies and leading efforts to assess program performance, promoting learning and continuous improvement, and ensuring robust data collection for internal understanding and external communications.

The role is based full-time in New York City and will require periodic US domestic travel to partner convenings, site visits, and conferences with peer institutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Co-create strategy for the economic equity program initiatives with the Greenwood Initiative team lead, program managers, and external consultants.
  
  
  
  • Field inquiries regarding funding and program priorities
  • Lead the development of proposals with right-sized scopes, budgets, and deliverables for work reflective of Greenwood's priorities and key opportunities.
  
  
  
  

• Work closely with the grants management team to plan, implement and manage grants and partner contracts.
  
  
  
  • Liaise with grantees, partners and internal stakeholders to develop program budgets and address grant and budget issues (e.g., budget modifications, no-cost extensions and re-allocations)
  • Where appropriate, elevate grant and contract issues to team leadership with proposed solutions
  
  
  
  

• Work with the impact and evaluation team to manage the creation and tracking of program outcomes and impacts against goals and grant requirements.
  
  
  
  • Identify and track metrics to monitor progress and long-term impact of programs and initiatives.
  • Ensure the timely completion and submission of reports by grantee and provide feedback along the way.
  • Regularly prepare materials for internal reporting including monthly program highlights, and one-pagers, project timelines, and other written documents.
  
  
  
  

• Inform the strategic agenda of the Initiative through awareness of the funding landscape and issue knowledge.
  
  
  
  • Contribute to learning sessions to support team development and learning agenda.
  • Work collaboratively across the team to identify opportunities for coordination and collaboration across grantee projects.
  • Conduct research and support the development of strategies for expanding the reach and impact of existing initiatives.
  
  
  
  

• Prepare high-quality memos and presentations for the Greenwood Initiative team lead and Foundation's leadership to highlight strategy development and synthesize progress toward key milestones.

• Provide administrative support by coordinating meetings with partners. Ensure agendas and materials are prepared and disseminated in a timely manner.

• Effectively represent The Greenwood Initiative and Bloomberg Philanthropies at external meetings and events.

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:

While no one person may embody all the qualities enumerated below, you should possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences:

• 8 years minimum of full-time work experience in government, consulting, philanthropy, nonprofits or social enterprise
• Passion for racial wealth equity, wealth building initiatives, and communities.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills required to build relationships within the Foundation, current and potential grantees, consultants, education and community partners, government officials, organizations, and important thought partners and influencers
• Strong capacity to identify, elevate, and synthesize critical information for colleagues and leadership looking to be informed and make critical decisions.
• Demonstrated project management excellence with keen organizational skills, history prioritizing simultaneous projects and meeting deadlines in a fast paced, results driven organization
• Team player with a willingness to collaborate and offer ideas to drive team improvement and operational success.
• An ability to be a creative problem-solver paired with the ability to influence and inspire others to achieve objectives.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a proven capacity to synthesize information and translate big ideas into meaningful plans and memos
• Willingness to participate in both critical thinking and administrative tasks, operating with a collaborative working style
• Highest standards of ethics and integrity, with a history of working in environments that require discretion and confidentiality
• Bachelor's degree required
