We're searching for the next generation of innovative minds who want to shape the world and live to build. CCI is looking for a Mass Timber Superintendent to join our Livonia, Michigan region. The Mass Timber Superintendent will provide primary leadership for all construction activities on site. Overall responsibility for project field execution including safety, profitability and quality, while representing and protecting Christman Constructor's interests.

What You Will Do:

As Mass Timber Superintendent, your primary daily responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:



  • Oversees technical interpretation of construction documents and drawings, recommending construction methods and equipment.
  • Ensures consistency with contractual specifications and requirements for the project.
  • Recommends or evaluates construction options and efficiencies based on review.
  • Establishes project site expectations for safety, quality, unforeseen conditions, housekeeping, and general conduct.
  • Responsible for project safety, including inspections, TAG's, pre-task analysis, and interface with safety team.
  • Ensures appropriate safety training and awareness is occurring daily.
  • Discusses relevant safety topics with trade contractor on a weekly basis, or more frequently if needed.
  • Addresses safety offenses immediately to clarify expectations and reinforce commitment to safety, including the recognition and correction of common work area hazards.
  • Promptly reports and investigates accidents and safety-related incidents, coordinating with the safety team to determine appropriate action.
  • Verifies, authorizes, and ensures the timely completion of timesheets for trade contractors as well as Christman Constructors employees, including extra work performed on a time and material basis.
  • Plans and coordinates site logistics, including traffic patterns, equipment locations, and storage and staging.
  • Ensures that Christman Constructors is represented at assigned project sites every day, and that work is being performed by setting expectations, responsibilities, and maintain commitments.
  • Partners with project manager, client, and trade contractors to develop a work plan for the project. Coordinate project team's preparation for upcoming work through progress meeting.
  • Plans and coordinates timely initiation, momentum, and completion of all trade contract work on the project site according to the project schedule.
  • Establishes sequence, phasing, and pace of work requirements with trade contractor foremen to accomplish schedule milestones.
  • Discusses quality expectations with trade foremen prior to installation (pre-bid, post-bid and pre-installation meetings).
  • Arranges pre-installation coordination meetings for all work areas that involve overlapping work by multiple trade contractors.
  • Authorizes purchase requisitions for materials, equipment, and labor as agreed with project management prior to project startup or for emergency situations required to keep the project and team members safe.
  • Completes thorough and accurate daily reports of progress and concerns or challenges, including daily weather and safety inspections, violations, and accidents.
  • Continuously assesses and analyzes project's actual status against goals, develops contingency plans, and revises construction strategy as required.
  • Builds positive relationships with owners, architects, and contractors.
  • Manages conflicts and disputes, focusing on developing mutually acceptable solutions aligned with the contractual agreements.
  • Maintains data in required information systems or databases, and utilizes required software.
  • Complies with federal and state regulations, and company policies and procedures.
  • Completes assigned and required training for this role.


What You Will Bring to the Team:

Required experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:



  1. High School diploma, or equivalent.
  2. Five (5) or more years of work experience in construction or a related job field.

  1. Equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.


Preferred experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:



  1. Trade related training and experience working as a Carpenter, Finisher, or Operator.
  2. Basic computer skills, and a basic understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Microsoft Word, Procore, Building Information Model (BIM), and a firm knowledge of Microsoft Project.
  3. OSHA 30-hour


Additional Eligibility Qualifications



  • Demonstrated interest in and ability to develop familiarity with the site requirements, tools, methods, and materials of the full range of trade divisions.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to drive a project schedule.
  • Experience with reading and understanding owner contracts, subcontracts, and professional service agreements.
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of commercial construction trades.
  • Thorough understanding of building design and ability to read and thoroughly comprehend building plans.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, contract drawings, and specifications.
  • Must have the ability to manage time effectively and plan.
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines and regulations, and have a good knowledge of job cost accounting practices and analysis of reports.
  • Analyzes problems and makes decisions in a timely manner based on objectives, risks, implications and cost.
  • Advanced understanding of construction scheduling, cost control and demonstrated ability to control and supervise large groups.
  • Tactful and mature demeanor with well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with diverse personalities and advocate for an inclusive environment.
  • Successful completion of classes or other training in construction management, project management, safety, and communications.
  • Must have great internal and external customer service.

Work Environment

The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site and in an office trailer where the project is monitored and daily decisions are made about construction activities. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. Protective equipment is required when on the construction site, including but not limited to hardhats, safety glasses, and high visibility clothing. Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must be able to talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, operate a computer, cell phone and telephone. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Expected Hours of Work Full time position. Extended hours and weekends may apply.

Travel Travel to and from the construction site is required, majority of the work will be done at the site. Most of the travel will be local, but some long distance and overnight travel may be required depending on the project.
