Arapahoe County and the District Attorney's Office for the 18th Judicial District has an exciting opportunity for the below Diversion Therapist I, II - Intake position.

The full salary range for the Diversion Therapist I is $58,448.52 - $87,673.04
The full salary range for the Diversion Therapist II is $64,293.06 - $96,439.98

The Diversion Therapist-Intake provides a variety of professional screens and assessments to determine program eligibility, identify participant's risks and needs, and inform recommendations through oral and written reports for individual diversion plans. May also provide counseling and case management services to aid in participants' successful completion of the District Attorney's Office diversion program. This may include working with individual, family, and group therapy for juveniles, adult offenders and their families, restorative justice practices, experiential therapies specific to juveniles, and maintaining client records by documenting all participant contacts and tracking progress.


Duties

  • Performs mental health intakes and the screening and assessment of clients.
  • Participates in case staffing with the clinical and non-clinical diversion team for level of intervention.
  • Collaborates with diversion team and program participants to create individual plans outlining program requirements and treatment goals.
  • Works in conjunction with program participants to promote successful completion of their individualized program goals and/or treatment plans. Determines frequency and modality of counseling services and/or supervision needed. May provide direct therapy services such as: individual, family, couples, group and experiential counseling. Supports clients in crisis and makes referrals as needed.
  • Consults with the Victim Advocates and incorporates the victims' voice in participants' individual plans.
  • Provides and participates in restorative justice practices.
  • Conducts multi-disciplinary meetings which may include offense specific cases.
  • Helps families to understand educational options and coordinates with schools on transitions.
  • Creates case and treatment notes in participant electronic files and completes all other required paperwork or documentation, maintains participant confidentiality, tracks participant progress and helps to determine program violations and successful completion.
  • Assists in the tracking and collection of restitution. Collects and reports various case-related statistics. Educates client and family regarding the justice system and consequences of further legal involvement.
  • Formulates case conceptualization and case presentations to supervisors, co-workers and outside agencies.
  • Attends mandatory staff meetings and bi-annual retreats, various conferences and professional training seminars. Presents material about program services and/or relevant topics to schools and community service agencies.
  • Participates in on-going individual and/or group supervision with director, assistant director, clinical supervisors, peers and/or clinical consultant(s).

Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • Familiarity with professional and clinical emerging knowledge, and an interest in the criminal and juvenile justice systems and trends.
  • Considerable knowledge of screening and assessment tools, application and best practices.
  • Familiar with counseling theories and techniques, treatment modalities, and crisis management.
  • Experience creating and implementing treatment plans.
  • Ability to coordinate with community agencies and resources, facilitate meetings with outside providers on behalf of the client, understand and explain clinical issues and program components to clients, families and outside agencies.
  • Must be able to analyze problems, make recommendations for effective solutions, establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Effective oral and written communication, ability to multi-task, self-driven and accountable to supervision.
  • Works as a member of a high-functioning, self-directed team. Exceptional time management and organizational skills.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
Intake Therapist I

  • Master's degree required in counseling, couples and family's therapy, social work or closely related human services field
  • 2+ years of progressively responsible counseling duties involving direct service provision with adults, juveniles, and families.
  • Any equivalent combination of related work experience and education will be considered.
Intake Therapist II
  • Master's degree required in counseling, couples and family's therapy, social work or closely related human services field
  • Mental Health Licensure
  • 2+ years of progressively responsible counseling duties involving direct service provision with adults, juveniles, and families.
  • Any equivalent combination of related work experience and education will be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish-English) preferred
  • Mental Health Licensure

Supplemental Information

Pre Employment:

  • Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background checks.
  • Will require fingerprinting and a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • The majority of work is provided in a standard office environment. Opportunities to provide community service, day and overnight experiential therapy, restorative justice and various other modalities are incorporated.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Spends 90% of the time sitting and 10% of the time either upright or walking.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries, pulls or pushes up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally climbs, stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches while performing office or work duties.
  • Verbal and auditory capacity enabling constant interpersonal communication through automated devices, such as telephones, radios, and similar; and in public meetings and personal interactions.
  • Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of automated office machinery or equipment.
  • Visual capacity enabling constant use of computer or other work-related equipment.
