ENGINEERING SUPERVISOR

General Position Summary

Engineering Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Sr. Engineering Manager to guide the engineering team to develop and deliver new products, which meets the user requirements and ensures conformance with Sakura's quality and regulatory requirements with a focus on product robustness and quality. He/she will manage engineers and technicians with the guidance of the Sr. Engineering Manager. Will work with the Sr. Engineering Manager to guide the engineering team to tackle problems in support of production, instrument service, and QA/QC.

Essential Job Functions

Engineering Activities

  • Assist the Sr. Engineering Manager in planning, executing, and managing engineering activities.
  • Communicate, guide, and assist the engineers in completing the tasks assigned to individuals.
  • Identifies blockers impacting engineers and take appropriate action to resolve or mitigate the issues.
  • Plans sequential and concurrent activities and assign tasks to team members.
  • Assures compliance with applicable regulatory standards and directives.
  • Work with the Sr. Engineering Manager to facilitate an environment to maintain a highly competent, well trained, motivated staff promoting company culture and job satisfaction, and employee retention.
  • Identifies and assists implementation of technology and process improvements.
  • Establish team objectives and obtain acceptance by team members.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Sr. Engineering Manager as deemed appropriate.

Information Management & Reporting Activities

  • Leads and/or participates in meetings and conducts design reviews both informal and formal as needed to advance projects.
  • Updates Sr. Manager Engineer and/or management on project status through written reports or presentations on project status, tests, costs, issues, and performance on a regular basis.

Quality/Business Systems Activities

  • Ensures standards for ISO 13485 certification are met.
  • Contributes to, and supports the Sr. Engineering Manager by ensuring that the Quality/Business System is defined and deployed in the respective areas of responsibility. Aids in seeking opportunities for continuous business improvement and monitors progress of objectives for ISO 13485 certification and overall QSR requirements.
  • Assist Sr. Engineering Manager in follows up on action items addressed by the Leadership Review Team and oversees resolution of quality issues.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills to effectively communicate and build relationships with a broad spectrum of audiences.
  • Capable of establishing and nurturing personal relationships not only with the engineering team, but also with other company functions.
  • Interacts in a professional and proactive manner with internal and external functions/customers (Marketing, RA/QA, Service, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Suppliers, etc.).
  • Have the ability to properly utilize and weigh the opinion of subject matter experts.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain the momentum of projects and deal with diverse personalities.
  • Have sound technical aptitude and proven ability to grasp general knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Must have solid Microsoft software usage skills.
  • Strong competencies in planning, project management, and organization with the ability to lead multiple activities and resources while maintaining a focus on quality.
  • Ability to produce and present clear, concise, and professionally written communications and presentations.

Essential Job Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline. Advanced degrees are a plus.

Experience & Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years in product development in engineering role, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong preference is given to experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and/or medical device industries.
  • Requires clear and concise verbal and written communication skills; good technical writing skills, good interpersonal/customer relations skills; good budgetary skills; good presentation skills, ability to persuade/influence to gain cooperation; ability to convey complex technical information in an easily understood manner, both verbally and in writing; good computer skills (word-processing, spreadsheets, timeline programs, etc.).
  • Requires knowledge of product development processes, engineering documentation change control and related development processes.
  • Good analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements & Working Environment

  • This position requires the employee to frequently sit at desk.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to successfully work in a dynamic environment and respond to multiple demands.
  • Requires reading, math, analyzing and drawing conclusions from data; developing and implementing methodologies/plans/processes for accomplishing a goal; coordinating and leading others to accomplish goals, evaluating the progress of projects.
  • Ability to travel domestically.
