Day & Zimmermann is accepting resumes for a Director of Operations role for union coal fire / natural gas operations in the East Coast US. Ideal candidates will leave in / around Georgia.


Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the successful oversight of all contract obligations and labor agreements at assigned site(s). This position ensures that the assigned Site Managers are effectively executing all work in a safe and productive manner and in accordance with the quality standards of both the customer and D&Z. Position serves as the principal contact to the Customer for higher level contract issues and strategic client relationship management. Identifies strategic business development opportunities.

Position is responsible for the development of talent in their organization. Responsible for reporting (internal and external) on assigned contracts, including content and accuracy; presents reports as required. Responsible for estimate reviews, budget and profitability on all assigned contracts. Responsible for capturing and sharing internal and external industry knowledge and best practices through continuous learning and development.

Makes recommendations for new or improved processes and programs to enhance D&Z service delivery. Must anticipate and resolve operational issues of projects and the workforce.

As the Director of Operations, here's the work you'll do:

  • Responsible for effectively achieving financial, operational, customer retention and safety goals for work with assigned clients.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and provide leadership through establishing expectations and accountability related to the execution of an effective Customer and D&Z safety program for all assigned clients/sites.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with client's key stakeholders. Proactively interacts with key stakeholders to understand and respond to their needs (current and future). Exhibits extraordinary responsiveness in meeting customer needs and expectations. Facilitates cross organizational communications, coordination and transparency.
  • Work with the Executive team to ensure their needs and expectations regarding communication, budget, approach, results and timing are met. Additionally facilitate site management in identifying customer processes and integrating them with D&Z project controls and planning processes to ensure the product/service provided will meet contract obligations.
  • Effectively works with functional areas via the appropriate Project Support Team to achieve shared goals, resolve conflicts and establish/promote best practices through field operational experience.
  • Identify, attract, develop and retain talent through effective employee engagement, communication, and performance management.


This role is for you if you have these skills:

  • Technical/Industry Expertise- Demonstrated background in maintenance and/or construction management within the Power Industry; experience does not necessarily need to be with an M&M contractor, although highly preferred; Strong knowledge and experience in project management and project controls, preferably at the field or site level. Can execute both projects and O&M scopes of work.
  • Operations Savvy- Action oriented; can be counted on to consistently exceed goals; bottom-line oriented; clearly assigns responsibility for tasks and decisions; pushes others for results and holds them accountable; works through others to achieve results; maintains big-picture view of key projects and initiatives without getting lost in the details.
  • Business/Financial Acumen- Understands how the business works including drivers of cost and revenue; able to understand and work with key financial measurements to analyze the business; able to develop actions to correct financial performance; knows the marketplace and understands how business strategies and tactics impact marketplace perception.
  • Builds Strategic Client Relationships- Develops and sustains effective long-term business relationships with people, especially at senior levels (internally and externally) to create value and influence customer buying patterns and increase sales revenue growth and market share.
  • Communicates with Impact- Clearly and consistently gets information across in a timely and effective manner both verbally and in writing. Demonstrates the ability to influence people and get them to take appropriate action.


And if you have these qualifications:

  • Associates degree in a relevant field or the completion of a journeyman program or equivalent combination of education and experience required; Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field preferred
  • 20+ years' experience of relevant operations and power industry experience
  • PMP (Project Management) certification preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work with union craft leadership where applicable (closed shop positions).



In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $158,000 - $ 251,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of union fringes). We care about our employees and it shows.
