2025 Summer Intern - Peptide Therapeutics/Early Discovery Biochemistry

Department Summary

The department of Peptide Therapeutics (Early Discovery Biochemistry) focuses on the discovery of novel peptide drug candidates against intracellular and extracellular targets, tissue-targeting modalities, and tool molecules for ongoing research efforts in tissue regeneration, immunology, oncology, and neurodegeneration. We are offering an exciting opportunity for a talented and highly motivated summer intern to help expand the scope of our peptide discovery platform.

This is a paid internship position located in South San Francisco, on-site.

The Opportunity

  • Applying structure-guided principles to design and optimize peptide libraries.

  • Utilizing in silico and in vitro mutagenesis techniques to generate high diversity libraries.

  • Using the mRNA display platform to identify peptide binders to therapeutically relevant protein targets.

  • Conducting NGS analysis to evaluate success of selections.

  • Identifying MCP hits for target binding using biochemical (ELISAs) and biophysical (SPR) assays.

  • Analyzing and presenting results to the group.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2025.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education

You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must have attained a Master's Degree

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student)

Required major: Biochemistry/chemical biology, Molecular Biology, Computational Structural Biology, Computational Chemistry or a related discipline with extensive work on peptides.

Required skills:

  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, in vitro transcription, and high-throughput sequencing.

  • Practical working experience with computational chemistry and/or molecular visualization software such as MOE, Schrodinger, Rosetta.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Experience with display-based technologies (mRNA display, phage display, DNA-encoded libraries) is desirable but not required.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $40.00-$45.00 per hour.Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
