JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Altoona Athletics & Recreation is seeking a part time Head Spirit Squad Coach (Cheer, Dance & Mascot). This opening will primarily be responsible for the development, implementation, and leadership of the Penn State Altoona Spirit Squad with respect to the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) and National Dance Association (NDA) and University and Athletic department rules and regulations.

Job Duties
The Head Coach reports directly to the Director of Athletics and is responsible for the management of all aspects of the Spirit Squad program. Duties include, but will not be limited to:
  • Competition coaching
  • Recruitment of qualified student athletes.
  • Scheduling and conducting practice sessions and the team's competition season.
  • Team travel
  • Supporting student-athletes in all aspects of their participation and the supervision of assistant coaches.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Ability to physically demonstrate complex movements and skills required.
  • Candidate must have demonstrated success in a sport program at the college or an equivalently high level, including evidence of successful student retention and team success.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate and develop Division III student-athletes, knowledge of the sport and a verifiable ability to teach both fundamentals and strategies of the sport is necessary.
  • This person must possess a working knowledge of NCA and NDA rules, a commitment to high academic standards, and the NCAA Division III philosophy.
  • A successful candidate will have a reputation for integrity and dedication to student athlete wellbeing (mental, physical, and academic).
  • Employment with the University for this job will require successful completion of the Pennsylvania (PA) Publicly Available Clearances: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and the FBI Criminal History Background Check.

  • Employment with the University for this opening will require the operation of a motor vehicle as a part of the job duties. A valid US driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

  • May require the ability to work in an outdoor environment in adverse weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
