About the Center for Genome Engineering: At the University of Minnesota's Center for Genome Engineering, we're pioneering advancements that push the boundaries of science, merging research with meaningful community engagement. Through education, partnerships, and targeted outreach, we're bringing groundbreaking developments in genome engineering to life-making them accessible, inclusive, and impactful. As a Program and Education Manager, you'll play a key role in advancing this mission, developing and managing programs that both empower the community and support the Center's research goals.

The Program and Education Manager will manage Center initiatives, overseeing educational program development, outreach, and grant compliance. This role ensures smooth operations, builds partnerships, and fosters inclusive engagement, bridging connections between our research team, collaborators, and the broader community. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, an adept communicator, and a proactive leader, guiding program development from concept to successful implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Development, Management & Educational Outreach (25%)

  • Program Planning and Design: Strategically develop, plan, and implement activities, curricula, workshops, and seminars to advance the Center's research and outreach goals. Establish program timelines, benchmarks, and deliverables to ensure timely and effective implementation.
  • Educational Program Development: Design and deliver content-rich educational experiences tailored to varied audiences, including K-12 students, undergraduates, and underrepresented groups in science.
  • Outreach Initiative Execution: Organize and lead community engagement events, including public lectures, health fairs, and school visits, fostering an understanding of genome engineering and scientific research.
  • Program Evaluation & Improvement: Track and assess program performance through feedback and outcome data to improve and evolve programs based on effectiveness, reach, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Maintain thorough records of program processes, budgets, and outcomes, ensuring compliance with grant and program standards and requirements.

2. Grant Administration & Financial Management (20%)

  • Report Preparation: Prepare and submit grant and program progress, financial, and other necessary reports.
  • Expense Reconciliation & Financial Systems: Manage travel and reimbursements for Center members, utilize EFS for procurement and purchase orders, and complete required financial training.
  • Budget Management: Create and manage annual budgets for the Center, ensuring alignment with Center goals and financial compliance.
  • Data Collection: Conduct data collection for grant and program reporting.

3. Resource Management & Budgeting (5%)

  • Outreach Budget Oversight: Manage the budget for educational and outreach programs to maximize impact and cost-effectiveness.
  • Resource Allocation: Coordinate the availability of materials, staff, and resources required for successful program execution.

4. Event Coordination & Community Engagement (20%)

  • Event Organization: Coordinate educational workshops, symposia, and conferences, inviting researchers, experts, and students.
  • Community Event Hosting: Oversee logistics for public events like panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and science days to drive community involvement.
  • Educational Program Support: Manage programs such as summer camps, internships, and lab shadowing experiences for students to engage with scientific research.

5. Public Communication & Content Creation (10%)

  • Material Development: Create brochures, presentations, fact sheets, and digital resources to promote the Center's research and outreach.
  • Digital Management: Oversee website content, social media updates, and other digital outreach channels, maintaining an active online presence.
  • Presentation Preparation: Design and prepare presentation materials for team members to use in public and educational engagements.

6. Impact Evaluation & Reporting (5%)

  • Program Assessment: Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of outreach and educational programs, using metrics like surveys and engagement analytics.
  • Grant and Program Reporting Compliance: Prepare reports on outreach and education progress, outcomes, and challenges for grants and program reporting.
  • Continuous Improvement: Use evaluation insights to refine and enhance future programming and outreach strategies.

7. Partnership Building (5%)

  • Community Collaboration: Establish and maintain relationships with local schools, universities, and organizations to expand the Center's outreach and educational impact.

8. Administrative Support & Timeline Management (5%)

  • Calendar & Inquiry Management: Oversee the Center's calendar, serve as the primary contact for inquiries, and coordinate with faculty administrators to align priorities.
  • Documentation & Content Coordination: Draft, edit, and manage distribution of Center communications, including newsletters, reports, and emails.
  • Timeline Tracking: Establish and monitor project timelines and milestones, ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
  • Document & Resource Management: Maintain shared drives, administrative databases, and filing systems for Center members and trainees.

9. Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (5%)

  • Inclusive Programming: Develop outreach initiatives specifically aimed at reaching underrepresented groups to support grants and program diversity goals.
  • Accessibility: Ensure that all educational materials and outreach activities are accessible, providing accommodations for diverse learning styles, language needs, and abilities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree plus at least four years of relevant experience, or advanced degree plus at least two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least eight years.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Proven experience in program management, grant administration, or similar role.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to build consensus and connect with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with digital outreach tools and content creation.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and budget management tools.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $35.00 - $46.00/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment

Position Type: Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff
