About the Job
Responsibilities: 60% Non-Sponsored /Sponsored Financial Reporting, Management and Analysis * Consults with Finance Manager on approaches to the ALRT Center procedures and establishing guidelines for all members of accounting staff. * Reviews and approves financial transactions, ensuring compliance with University policies. * Completes timely and accurate account reconciliations. * Composes and distributes non-sponsored and sponsored reports based upon established deadlines. * Proactively analyzes financial reports / trends in order to inform and work with PI's to develop action plans to mitigate budget overages and/or find alternative funding sources. * Develops ad-hoc consolidated reports to assist department and division heads in reviewing financial results at a macro level. * Budgeting/Financial Forecasting and Year end entries 30% ISO/ESO and Accounting and Management * Provides guidance to ISO/ESO leadership to help assess and improve operations. Develops budgets and pricing structure for items to be sold to internal and external customers. * Presents ongoing reporting and analysis of sales and financial performance to ISO/ESO leaders, finance director, and PIs. * Ensures proper accounting and adherence to policy for internal and external sales. * Oversees monthly billing process of external customers (invoice generation, adherence to contracts, accounts receivable). * Coordinates with department staff to ensure effort activities are reported correctly. 5% Certified Approver & Effort Certification or Post Award Process Expert * Audit and approve expenditures on sponsored research projects. * Interpret grant and contract regulations and their relation to University accounting procedures, identifies areas of concern and recommends solutions. * Provide departmental expertise on expenditure requirements and policy. * Coordinate the effort certification process. * Create/refine internal processes for post award financial management. * Review current procedures and update/create procedures when necessary. Train staff as necessary. 5% Other Duties * Represent the ALRT Center on various committees to share expertise, aid in decision-making, and communicate information back to department. * Build, foster and maintain positive professional relationships with center faculty and staff. * Facilitate the resolution of complicated financial transactions and resulting questions. * Ensure the necessary department partners are informed of the financial status of clinical trial portfolio and the activities taking place. * Other duties as needed to manage accounting function in the department
Qualifications
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. Required Qualifications: * BA/BS plus at least five years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal nine years. * Experience to include financial analysis, creating and maintaining finance reports, and budgeting * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment * Strong organizational and customer service orientation skills * Strong verbal and written communications skills * Proficiency/experience with Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, Vlookup, etc.) and Word * Experience analyzing and reconciling data in multiple systems Preferred Qualifications: * Ability to establish solid relationships with business partners - Excellent team work skills * Grant and Internal and External Sales Organization (ISO/ESO) experience at a University. * Familiarity with University systems such as PeopleSoft HRMS, EFS, UM Reports, ECRT and EGMS. * Ability to proactively identify and resolve complex problems * Ability to organize and direct multiple projects and interrelated financial activities with major operational or funding impact * Ability to anticipate business needs of the PI and/or Center, develop and analyze alternatives, and make recommendations to faculty and unit leaders regarding budgets and financial impact * Ability to take initiative, positive attitude, self-starter and willingness to learn and to take on challenges * Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects with fixed deadlines and ability to re-prioritize tasks as needed * Strong technical, problem solving and process improvement skills * Analytical skills, ability to gather, organize and present data in a meaningful way Job description: This position is in the Medical School's ALRT Administrative Center and will serve in direct support of collegiate administrative departments. The position coordinates financial reporting and analysis within the Center and University policies and procedures in the areas of budget, daily operations of financial management, audit, and center operations, to accomplish the budget and financial work of the Medical School.
Pay and Benefits
