    Position Title: Special Education Resource Teacher

    Location: Newport Elementary School, Beach Park, IL

    Job Type: Full-time

    Reports To: Special Education Coordinator / School Principal

    Position Summary:

    The Special Education Resource Teacher is responsible for providing targeted instruction, interventions, and support to students with diverse learning needs in middle school. This educator collaborates with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and ensure that students have access to the general education curriculum in the least restrictive environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Instruction and Support:

      • Develop and implement specialized instructional strategies and modifications to meet IEP goals for students with varying disabilities.

      • Provide small group or individualized instruction to reinforce academic, behavioral, and social-emotional skills.

      • Adapt curriculum materials and use technology to enhance student engagement and accessibility.

    2. IEP Development and Compliance:

      • Collaborate with parents, general education teachers, and specialists to develop, update, and review IEPs in accordance with Illinois state regulations.

      • Collect and document data on student progress toward IEP goals, using this information to inform instructional decisions and update progress reports.

      • Serve as student's case manager

    3. Collaboration and Consultation:

      • Partner with classroom teachers to create inclusive environments and support students in general education settings.

      • Offer guidance and support to teachers in understanding and implementing accommodations and modifications.

      • Communicate regularly with families to discuss student progress, strategies for support, and address any concerns.

    4. Behavioral and Social-Emotional Support:

      • Implement positive behavior interventions and support strategies that align with students' IEPs.

      • Foster a supportive and safe learning environment that promotes students' emotional well-being and social skills.

    5. Professional Development and Compliance:

      • Attend professional development sessions to stay current on best practices, state and federal regulations, and instructional strategies.

      • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and services provided to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.

    • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 Endorsement.

    • Experience working with students in a middle school setting, particularly students with special needs.

    • Strong knowledge of IDEA and Section 504 regulations.

    • Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Proficiency in adaptive technology and assistive devices.

    • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks effectively.

    • Experience with data collection and progress monitoring tools.

    Working Conditions:

    • School-based, with some time spent in general education classrooms and a designated resource room.

    • May require occasional lifting of materials or assisting students with mobility needs.

    • Hours aligned with the middle school schedule; occasional evening meetings with parents or staff.
