Position Summary

As an Apprenticeship Program Instructor you will oversee the STERIS Apprenticeship Program. You will conduct technical and related training programs at STERIS to teach, mentor, coach and/or monitor students attending the Machinist Apprenticeship Program. In this role you will complete training programs, including outlinse, lesson plans, text, handouts, tests, and projects, applying knowledge of Safety, Lathes, Milling, Grinding, CNC Machines, and Multi Axis Machines. You will demonstrate procedures being taught, such as preventative maintenance, repair, applying knowledge of set up and operation of machines, using hand tools, measuring instruments, and testing equipment, and following course outlines. You are responsible for individual assignments relating to these duties, and those required to support the operations of the department.

This role requires in-person or onsite work 5 days a week at our Montgomery, AL location.

What You'll do as an Apprenticeship Program Instructor:

  • Performall key functions of the Technical Training & Development Associate position plus the following key functions below.
  • Leadprojects to incorporate changes to the curriculums as needed. Uses approved procedures to initiate and document all required curriculum and/or materials changes.
  • CounselStudents as needed and recommends remediation's to ensure student success for all courses taken
  • Assistin the development and evaluation of apprentices and recommends areas for skill development.
  • Assesstraining needs through surveys, interviews, focus groups, or consultation with managers, instructors or customer representatives. Negotiate with clients on performance improvement projects, including desired outcomes (training or non-training), collaboration and support needed. Offer specific consultative advice to help workers maintain or improve job skills. Attend meetings and seminars to obtain information for use in training programs, or to inform management of training program status.
  • Staycurrent with developments in area of expertise by participating in e-learning opportunities and collaborations with Alabama Office of Apprenticeship.
  • Participatein both the short and long-term planning activities of the machinist Apprentice Program.


The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed:

  • Associates Degree in relevant Science or Instructional background required.
  • Minimum 4 yearsexperience in formal (adult) training; industrial, vocational or technical training.
  • Bachelors Degree in Sciences or Technologies highly preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Certified in an approved instructor training program is preferred.
  • Management training and experience a plus.
