GENERAL SUMMARY: The Receptionist greets and assists patients and/or visitors in person or via telephone in a professional and courteous manner. Performs miscellaneous clerical duties. PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 2. *Answers all incoming calls and forwards callers to proper party; obtains and relays accurate messages in a timely fashion. 3. *Uses interpersonal skills to present a professional image and communicate effectively in person and by telephone or email. 4. *Performs a variety of clerical tasks which may include typing, alphabetizing, filing, photocopying or stuffing envelopes. 5. Attends hospital workshops, seminars, meetings, and in-services to promote continuous self-development. 6. *Communicates and cooperates with all levels of personnel, medical staff, auxiliary and ancillary departments. 7. Attach Addendum for positions with slightly different roles or work-specific differences as needed. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Knowledge of business English and spelling. 2. Knowledge of general reception and office procedures. 3. Knowledge of standard clerical techniques. 4. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions. 5. Skill in operating and maintaining general office equipment. 6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer and ancillary departments and the general public. 7. Ability to organize and maintain filing systems. 8. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision. 9. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 10. Ability to exercise courtesy and professionalism in receiving office callers and visitors. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalency required. Knowledge of medical terminology desired or ability to complete Bryan Health course within six (6) months of hire preferred. Prior reception experience in a hospital setting preferred.
