General Information:

Balanced Dukes, the wellness and well-being program for faculty and staff at JMU, is seeking qualified instructors to lead yoga classes for our Faculty & Staff Fitness Program. Classes will be held on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays; 5:15 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. This program will start on January 21 and run through May 8, 2025. Instructors will sign up for the classes that they can commit to teaching.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Leading engaging and dynamic yoga classes tailored to participants of varying skill levels; * Instructors are responsible for providing any audio needed for the class
* Creating and delivering safe, well-structured yoga sessions
* Offer personalized guidance and adjustments to ensure proper form, alignment, and effectiveness of each pose
* Educating participants on the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of yoga
* Designing class sequences that challenge and relax, while incorporating elements of strength, flexibility, and endurance suited for gym members

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
* Experience teaching yoga classes to individuals or groups
* Strong knowledge of different yoga styles, techniques, and principles
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for participants of all backgrounds and abilities
* Must be self-motivated and possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications:
* Certification in yoga instruction from a recognized organization or institution is preferred

Conditions of Employment:

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

This is a part-time wage position working up to 2 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.
