The Sterile Processing Tech functions as an integral member of the team and is responsible for performing technical tasks that support clinical operations. The focus of this position is the decontamination and reprocessing of instrument sets and reusable sterile supplies. Included responsibility is the preparation of case carts for upcoming day's surgery.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Operation of decontamination and sterilization equipment, sterilization
  • Be responsible for the processing of including but not limited to reusable medical supplies and instrumentation which includes decontamination, assembly, terminal sterilization and sterile storage delivery to end users
  • Follows manufacturer's guidelines for sterilization and follows departmental procedures for proper
  • Decontaminate and clean used equipment and supplies requiring re-sterilization/reprocessing between uses
  • Prepare instruments, supplies, and equipment for and perform sterilization runs using both Ethylene Oxide and Steam systems
  • Performs duties of OR Instrument Assistant including cleaning, decontamination, assembly, labeling, wrapping and storing surgical instruments and trays
  • Conducts biological monitoring and documentation of same for variety of sterilizers and other related equipment in accordance with established schedule
  • Follows safety protocols to ensure no injury to self/others (proper body mechanics, protective apparel during decontamination procedures)
  • Cleans, assembles, performs minor repairs and wraps trays of surgical instruments, equipment and specialty supplies for sterilization
  • Operates sterilization equipment and performs specified daily maintenance tasks

Required Qualifications:



  • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing/pulling) lift 24lbs to max of 50lbs on a regular basis
  • Proven ability to communicate, read, write, speak and understand fluent English



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Sterile processing Certification HSPA
  • 1+ years of experience in an acute care setting



California Residents Only: The hourly range for this role is $16.54 to $32.55 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
