Job Description

YOUR OPPORTUNITY

The Stockyards Supervisor manages, analyzes, initiates, and controls all phases of the plant stockyards for a shift which receives, unloads, manages movement, cares, and assesses behaviors of animals in a pork processing facility. This position is a hands-on supervisor role, managing over fifteen employees and coordinating department activities and tasks to complete, improve and maximize movement and care of animals along with workflow optimization and staffing deployment. Ensure employees follow all Company, USDA and FSIS policies and standards as they relate to animal welfare and workplace safety. The supervisor will ensure animal behaviors are assessed, and the animals qualify for processing.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Ensure all standard operating procedures are being followed and facilities are in good working condition.
  • Ensures all animals entering the facility are cared for at the established level, assessed and identified as meeting the standards for processing for human consumption
  • Training of employees on day-to-day processes and procedures to develop a competent workforce by utilizing hands-on training methods
  • Responsible for attaining established targets for receiving of animals and movement of animals through the system. Demonstrates a clear understanding of key performance indicators and the impact on operations.
  • Investigates, identifies, and resolves operational constraints in the process, such as number of stressed or injured animals or bottlenecks and provides real-time solutions.
  • Evaluates equipment and stockyards to ensure animals are held in a safe area free from any hazards.
  • Utilize daily data to impact and maximize performance.
  • Complete understanding of humane handling practices, and complies with Company, USDA and FSIS regulations, policies and standards.
  • Monitor work schedules to ensure manning is at the established standard to meet production and schedule attainment. Ensures accurate record of staffing and time worked.
  • Supervise all employees, monitoring work performance, directing work, ensuring accurate timekeeping, and ensuring team members are trained and qualified and performing duties safely
  • Adheres to all Company policies and standard operating procedures with regards to animal handling, food safety and work-place safety

QUALIFICATIONS




  • Associate degree (A.A) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in animal science or related field or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience


  • Excellent computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language including the ability to communicate with team members at all levels within the organization and regulatory agencies

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move around the facility.
  • The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Primarily an office environment with some need to work in the field.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is dependent on which environment you are in
  • The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. After-hours, weekends, and overnight travel as requested.
