What You Will Do:

The Sr. Quality Improvement Specialist (QIS) is a leader in chart abstraction, measure validation and review for quality improvement measures reported to local, state and national agencies. The Sr. QIS ensures that accurate data is submitted for quality-related payment and recognition programs for measures which include but are not limited to core measures, electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs), hospital acquired conditions (HACs), patient safety indicators (PSIs) and mortality.

As a leader, the Sr. QIS has specialized expertise as a subject matter expert (SME) in areas such as quality payment and recognition program methodology, data analysis and reporting, as well as training and education. The Sr. QIS will have advanced skills in communication, negotiation and facilitation and act as liaison to partners and collaborators including clinical analytics, informatics, health information management, clinical documentation excellence. The Sr. QIS will have regular interaction with clinical and administrative leaders.

The Sr. QIS is expected to spend at least 30% of their time on strategic priority initiatives annually such as training other staff, providing education to physicians and advanced practice providers, briefing leaders on changes to measure specifications and program methodology, and developing and implementing program improvements to enhance efficiency and improve productivity, as assigned.

What you will bring:




  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare or relevant field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Requires five years equivalent full-time clinical experience as registered nurse, MD, PA or relevant clinical position. Requires a minimum of at least three years of experience in medical record auditing, abstracting or validation with familiarity in HACs/MHACs, PSIs, Core Measures, eCQMs, and risk adjustment. Experience collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports, conducting educational programs and facilitating discussion with multidisciplinary teams required.Coding and/or medical billing experience preferred.
  • Licensed in the State of Maryland as a Registered Nurse (RN), Physician Assistant (PA), or licensure in a related healthcare position.



Salary Range: Minimum 41.09 per hour - Maximum 67.84 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
