Position Summary

CTL Student Learning Assistance is a program available to UNM students enrolled in undergraduate classes. Our mission is to enrich the academic climate at UNM and create lifelong learners.

Language tutors provide support to students enrolled in specific language courses at UNM. Language tutors are either native speakers or advanced language learners and can help students understand language material, improve their written and oral skills in a language, and overcome any problems in language learning. As a member of the CTL team, student staff attend biweekly trainings focused on language content and tutoring practices, which are designed to make student staff effective facilitators of student learning.

Applicants will be asked to submit a recommendation from a professor or instructor who can speak to their strengths within the language they are applying for.

Language tutors:

  • Facilitate student learning by helping students understand their learning process and modeling metacognitive strategies in language acquisition

  • Provide language support through one-on-one consultations with student learners (including in-person, online, and asynchronous/e-mail support)

  • Provide language support by planning and conducting conversation group sessions for small-group language learning

  • Serve as a liaison between language departments and CTL language services

  • Actively participate in the CTL training program and professional development opportunities

  • Create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment
