THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is seeking an experienced and dependable Game Lands Maintenance Group Supervisor for the State Game Lands. This position gives you the opportunity to oversee and supervise the construction and maintenance of buildings, roads, and game land management areas to develop new and/or maintain wildlife habitat areas on State Game Lands and on private lands through cooperative agreements with landowners. The primary purpose of these lands is the management of habitat for wildlife and provide opportunities for lawful hunting and trapping. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be leading Game Land Maintenance Workers I, Maintenance Workers II, volunteers, and other assigned employees or personnel in the construction, maintenance, use of equipment, and techniques for maintaining and enhancing State Game Lands and other lands under lease. This may include construction and maintenance of buildings, roads, and game land management areas. You will also focus on supervising, leading, instructing, and performing wildlife habitat work such as:

  • Border cuts
  • Browse cuts
  • Hedgerow and shrub pruning and mowing
  • Fruit tree pruning and daylighting
  • Timber stand improvement cuts
  • Seedling planting and distribution
  • Other forest habitat management

You will have the opportunity to identify woody plants and safely use chainsaws, hand tools, power tools, tractors and attachments, bulldozers, and other equipment as necessary to accomplish these duties. With use of the required Commercial Driver's License, you will be operating motorized equipment including, but not limited to dozers, backhoes, front end loaders, tractors, truck-trailer combinations, dump trucks, large tilt bed trucks, sprayers, mowers, and grain elevators.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • AWS (alternate work schedule) may be available.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school or equivalency, and four years of maintenance and wildlife habitat development as a Game Lands Maintenance Worker 2, including one year of experience operating equipment such as bulldozers, graders and various combinations of trucks, trailers, tractors and related farm machinery and equipment; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills and Abilities.

Special Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License for the operation of equipment utilized by subordinates.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
