The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology is seeking a basic, translational, and/or clinical scientist addressing fundamental questions in the broad areas of blood flow regulation, vascular function, metabolism, or hemostasis/thrombosis, particularly in the context of pulmonary and systemic vascular disease, hemophilia, transfusion medicine, sickle cell disease, and heart disease. Successful candidates will take an interdisciplinary approach and excel at mechanistic research, novel big data approaches, and/or therapeutic development.

Qualified candidates must have a PhD degree in Biology, Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field. Ongoing or ability to compete for R01 or equivalent funding is required. Startup resources and compensation are available commensurate with experience. Academic appointments, tenure status, and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Applicants for Assistant Professor, non-tenure stream, should have one or more years of experience in related scientific research; demonstrate the ability to obtain external research funding; have disseminated results through peer-reviewed publications and other scientific forums; have relevant teaching experience, and demonstrate the capacity for career development and promotion.

Applicants for Associate Professor, non-tenure, tenure-stream, tenured, should have five or more years of experience in related scientific research; have independent, external research funding and a substantial record of peer-reviewed publications; have significant teaching experience; and demonstrate the capacity for sustained, impactful, and independent scholarly contributions and leadership.

Applicants for Professor, non-tenure, tenure-stream, and tenured, will have served five to seven years as Associate Professor. The rank of professor recognizes the attainment of authoritative knowledge and reputation in a recognized field of learning and the achievement of effective teaching skills. The professor should have attained superior stature in their field through scholarship, professional practice, and leadership in professional and learned organizations.
