BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. Domestically, our 28 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency. SCOPE OF WORK: Immigration intern will work directly with the immigration team assisting IRC clients in preparing applications for adjustment of status to permanent residence, naturalization petitions, family reunification applications, travel documents, renewal and replacement applications. Minimum Qualifications: * Currently pursuing an undergraduate, graduate degree, or recent graduate * Preference for candidates to be in-person at the Charlottesville office * Excellent oral and written English skills, bilingual is preferred but not required * Willingness to follow the IRC intern and workplace policies, including confidentiality * Attention to details and timeliness * Solid computer skills(Excel, MS Word, Immigrant tracking software) * Commitment to work with refugees, and to learn about other cultures This position is unpaid reports to the Immigration Legal Assistant Standard of Professional Conduct:The IRC and the IRC workers must adhere to the values and principles outlined in the IRC Way - our Code of Conduct.
