Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Director of the Stem Cell and Embryo Engineering Center (SEEC), the Research Technician will provide technical assistance in support of the Center. Will work on semi-routine assignments where judgement is required in identifying problems. May occasionally require an alternative work schedule, with the possibility of overtime and weekend work to meet project deadlines or address unexpected issues.

Essential Job Duties



  • Will perform stem cell culture of different mammalian stem cell lines.
  • Building constructs to modify stem cells and embryos.
  • Generation of gene modified stem cells and iPS cell lines.
  • Keeping detailed records and enter results in database.
  • Help the Director plan and organize work and communicate with others in an effective manner.
  • Assist the Director with rodent breeding colonies and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain stocks of consumables including routine quality checks on reagents and laboratory supplies and sample management.
  • Will work in the animal facility to work with rodents (mainly with mice) and cell culture rooms areas with restricted access and where personal protective clothing is required.
  • Will work at a microscope to image fixed samples.
  • Will collaborate with researchers to decide or to suggest the direction of the experiment/project.
  • May occasionally provide guidance to students, postdoctoral scholars, and other laboratory personnel.
  • Must be capable of solving both routine and semi-routine problems including assessing and diagnosing the nature of problems while referring more complex issues to higher levels.
  • May occasionally require an alternative work schedule, with the possibility of overtime and weekend work to meet project deadlines or address unexpected issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 2 years of experience in a related subject, or practical experience and proven track record of the practical aspects of the position required.
  • Performing cell culture with multiple stem cell lines.
  • Knowledge of CRISPR Cas9 system.
  • Working with primary samples derived from various mammalian species.
  • An understanding of the principles of genetically engineered rodent production, strain nomenclature, breeding schemes, and mouse colony management.
  • An ability to foster good working relationships with individuals from a variety of backgrounds is essential.
  • The ability to work productively under minimal supervision.
  • Willing to seek out opportunities to learn new work techniques, procedures, processes and protocols.
  • Responsible for performed work.
  • Excellent communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Master's Degree within related field.
  • Experience with the establishment of embryonic stem cell lines from mouse blastocysts.
  • Experience with live cell imaging.
  • Experience with setting up the new lab space.
  • Animal work experiences (e.g. IP injection, breeding, sample collection and genotyping).

Hiring Range

$23.50 - $30.25 Per Hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
