Title: Interim 4-H Program Assistant, Faribault or Goodhue County

Classification: Temp/Casual (0001), Hourly Position, Non-benefits Eligible

Starting Salary: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Appointment: See dates below for each location; approximately 40 hours per week

Office Location: Faribault County or Goodhue County

Faribault County (office is located at 435 S. Grove St., Ste. 1C Blue Earth, MN 56013)

  • Tentative start date January 6, 2025 and end date no later than March 14, 2025

Goodhue County (office is located at 509 W 5th Street Red Wing, MN 55066)

  • Tentative start date January 13, 2025 and end date no later than April 4, 2025

About the Position

This Youth Development interim 4-H Program Assistant position manages the day-to-day coordination and delivery of local (county) 4-H programming due to temporary vacancy. Candidates are expected to be onsite in a specific county office location and be present in the community in which this position supports; this position is not relocation reimbursement eligible. Hours will vary and will include evenings and weekends.

This interim 4-H Program Assistant will manage and steward the 4-H Youth Development program under the direct supervision of the Program Leader. Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

Program Coordination - 40%

  • Ensure the county program is working towards statewide 4-H program outcomes.
  • Work with the local governing board (Federation/Leaders Council, and county committees) to move forward program plans.
  • Maintain and ensure program accessibility and quality to all youth through a full range of 4-H Club experiences (community, after school, site based and project clubs).
  • Manage opportunities for reflection and public recognition (e.g., showcase at county fair, awards program).
  • Coordinate youth and volunteer involvement in regional, state and national 4-H Youth Development programs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in county, regional, and state positions to ensure quality youth programs.
  • Follow and implement University of Minnesota, Extension, and Minnesota 4-H Youth Development policies and practices.

Volunteer Coordination - 35%

  • Work with regional volunteer systems Extension educator to:
    • Manage the volunteer system (e.g., identify, select, train, utilize, recognize, evaluate volunteers).
    • Address problems that arise with volunteer roles.
  • Ensure volunteers are appropriately screened for their role.
  • Respond to volunteer request for resources
  • Provide resources to volunteers that support their role (e.g., club start up, online training links, training options)

Marketing, Recruitment, Evaluation & Reporting Support- 15%

  • Communicate 4-H program opportunities to members, families, volunteers, and partners using email, social media, direct mail, etc.
  • Promote and market the 4-H youth development program.
  • Distribute marketing materials provided for regional, state, and national 4-H educational programs and events.
  • Work with the Program Leader to communicate the value, impacts and outcomes of the 4-H youth development program to local stakeholders and media.
  • Collect and ensure entry of data for program reporting.

4-H Program Operations - 10%

  • Follow all fiscal policies, including reporting for tax purposes.
  • Manage established processes for youth enrollment, volunteer enrollment, and event participation.
  • Apply risk management procedures to youth programs.
  • Ensure completion of chartering process for 4-H Federation/Council and 4-H clubs/groups (fall/winter)
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required Qualifications (must be on resume):

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Experience in youth work (this can be met with a combination of volunteer experience, employment experience, education/classes in youth work and related)
  • Basic experience with word processing, e-mail, and internet browsers.
  • Experience working with clientele both face-to-face and on the phone.
  • Proficient in oral and written English communication skills

Preferred qualifications:

  • Two years of full-time equivalent experience in youth work (prefer this is met with employment experience, however, this can be met with a combination of volunteer experience, employment experience, education/classes in youth work and related).
  • Education in sociology, youth development, or related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Educational program and event coordination, teaching, and evaluation skills.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Basic understanding of youth development principles.

Additional Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Valid driver's license and access to vehicle with required insurance as this position works in the community. Must be able to travel several times per week regionally/statewide occasionally. (Mileage reimbursement provided)
  • Work within an office as well as in various educational settings.
  • Work days, evenings, and weekends, as needed, to meet responsibilities of the position.
  • When not in an assigned office location, a mobile phone number is required to meet responsibilities of this position.
  • Must have the ability to lift, carry, pull, and push 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for 90 minutes at a time and/or sit for 90 minutes at a time. Some days will require hours of standing or sitting.
  • This position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship, must be currently authorized to work in the U.S.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.00 - $25.00 an hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience
