Senior Estimator - Mechanical

Position Description:

The Senior Mechanical Estimator provides participation and support to the Mechanical division's estimating efforts in accordance with the company's long range strategic goals to grow the business.

Core Responsibilities:



  • Assist in tracking all information on the project including shop drawings and submittals, requests for information, subcontracts, and change order requests.
  • Project Pursuits - Execute or lead a team executing the duties of the estimating department in pursuing projects. Ensure the approach in developing the proposal addresses the unique needs of the project, the expectation of the client and reflects BMC's work approach.
  • Estimating Excellence - Instill in the estimating team a focus on a technical understanding of the work, incorporating logistics, schedule, means and methods, cost of work, crew structure, production history, subcontractor selection along with a commercial understanding of the proposal.
  • Capture Planning - Take an active role in Capture Planning key pursuits with a focus on Best Bid, Best Team and Bid to Win components.
  • Win Work Strategy - Ensure the incorporation of key Win Work and Capture Plan strategies into the department's proposals.
  • Subcontractor Management - Take an active role in developing and maintaining key subcontractor relationships to ensure the team has the key vendors needed to support Business Development's pipeline of opportunities.
  • Subcontractor Selection - Develop and implement the tools necessary to drive sufficient subcontractor coverage through a prequalification program, an ITB process, and a Bid Leveling System.
  • Account Based Management - Work with the Client Executives and Account Managers to ensure our proposals are well aligned with the expectations of each clients.
  • Systems - Develop and maintain the systems and tools utilized by the department including HCSS, Quotesoft and Building Connected, and other deemed necessary for the overall estimating process.
  • Improve Competitiveness - Develop processes, tools, and a mindset to drive our proposal to reflect a clear understanding of cost to allow us to drive to our most competitive cost model.
  • Processes - Maintain the Estimating Department's Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accuracy, completeness, consistency of product, appropriate level of estimating precision, assuring the department produces Best in Class estimating services.
  • Historical Cost Data and Production - Maintains, informs, and educates the estimating team on historical production rates and market pricing points.
  • Innovation - Actively promotes new and innovative Estimating IT solutions to maintain an Estimating staff with estimating IT intelligence. Works across the organization to assist in identifying optimal system platforms to ensure connectivity, interoperability, and estimating production is maximized.
  • Communication - needs to communicate and coordinate with Safety, Operations, Controls, Business Development/Marketing and IT in all project pursuits to provide a fully integrated project estimate that is complete and Best in Class.


Qualifications:



  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Has extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of Mechanical construction.
  • MCAA Weblem, QuoteSoft, HCSS, Building Connected experience desired.
  • An ability to understand the cost drivers unique to our business and the impact of complex contract payment terms on the financial outcome of projects.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
