We are seeking a senior scientist/engineer/analyst to lead world class capabilities related to the energy science and technology associated with the ORNL and DOE mission. Selection will be based on qualifications, relevant experience, skills, and education. This position resides within the Electrification and Energy Infrastructure Division (EEID), which houses the Grid Research Integration and Deployment Center (GRID-C) and conducts research and development in support of energy and national security applications. The Grid Systems Hardware (GSH) Group Leader will be responsible for leading the advancement of power electronics (PE) embedded controls hardware, PE subsystems development, semiconductor and component packaging and prototyping, passive components that include tranformers and magnetics, as well as grid protection component hardware such as breakers. This group provides national Research and Development (R&D) leadership in the design, development and deployment of grid hardware components and power electronics-based devices into present and future energy systems. Purpose: Provide R&D leadership to the group that strategically advances science and technology consistent with ORNL's aspiration to be the world's premier R&D institution and ORNL's science culture. The Grid Systems Hardware (GSH) Group Leader brings together a cadre of peers with the primary goal of pursuing global scientific leadership, nurtures ORNL's culture among group members, and continues to build and scale up individual excellence and impact in R&D. The GCH Group Leader reports to and works closely with the Energy Systems Integration and Controls (ESIC) Section Head to implement the group's scientific vision; develops group members to enable their career advancement; establishes capabilities that enable programs to excel at the forefront of science and technology; performs R&D to advance the field of knowledge and/or technology in one's respective specialty; sets, implements, and models standards for performance of work consistent with Environment, Safety, Security, Health, and Quality (ESH&Q) requirements and business rules; and ensures a diverse and inclusive work environment where every employee feels safe, heard, and appreciated-a workplace that sets an example for the broader community.
